Hi guys,

I currently have a genuine EF9 and plan to work it from the ground up. My plan was originally to go for the easy route of a B18C however with K20 swap becoming so popular with the eg's and ek's I am willing to give a K20 a shot in my EF9.

I understand that the work/cost involved is much more than the B18C.

I was wondering if anyone out there has tried the K swap into a EF8/9? If anyone knows of a Melbourne garage that has done this before that would great as I would like to give the work to someone that has done it before.

Thanks guys and look forward to any replies

Only seen one K20 EF8 which was up in Sydney. In Melb I've seen a K20 ED9 but it's been a long and arduous/costly process which isn't finished yet but will probably be the bees knees when it's done.

So yeah, very doable if you have the coin (probably at least $15-20,000) but I haven't seen any in Melbourne as of yet.

Looking at atleast $15k minimum for a shop to do it. Better start saving those pennies!

Thanks guys, I have a budget of 12k so it looks like a worked B18C then. cheers for the info.

Dont bother bro. Waste of money.

You have an EF9. Put the b16a head on a b20 block. More peak power, superior torque, less money spent on sourcing parts by avoiding the new b18c.

K24 is a lot cheaper than a k20 :)

With $12k I would just turbo the b16 with a twin scroll turbo. You will have good torque everywhere in the rev range and mind blowing top end.

140-150kw B series will suit it nicely.

K20a isnt much more dearer then k24.

Wouldn't that come down to what gear box you run? I k24 and euro box has to be a few k cheaper than a k20 and type r box

Few K? well not really esp with the K20a has a LSD box, different ratios + wiring harness + ECU + midshaft + sensors + etc etc list goes on and on!

Yes k24 has more potential to make power...... stock for stock ... k20a still come out ontop.

Good luck trying to squeeze a K24 in without customising your hood to the extreme.

Budget $18 - $20k depending on how much work your going to do yourself.
I spent $20k, I did most of it myself, but also had the car fully resprayed etc. I enjoyed the journey and the experience, but would I do it again...? Probably not to an ED chassis.. Bloody fun to drive though :D

Bonnet isn't too bad on the EF for clearance due to the raised centre section.

ED is much worse, need to remove the webbing, replace with a facelift EF style bonnet to suit ED, or get a custom hood.

I was referring to fitting a K24 in, taller deck, even with an EF hood you would need to do more than cut the webbing. You wouldn't even bother with an ED bonnet, you would just run a Vis Racing JDM style hood ie raised mid section like the EF's and hack @ the webbing or do an EF front end conversion..... oh look the budgets blowing out ... $22K LOL

Yeah VIS that's the one I was thinking of.

How much taller is the K24 block compared to the K20 block?

k24 stands no chance in fitting under an SiR bonnet, you will need to raise the middle section. Also if you are planning to run RBC or RRC u will also need to cut the bonnet. There are only a select few itb's out there that will fit under a k-swap EF

If you have an original EF9 then leave it as-is as it'll be worth more later.
To fulfull your burning desire to build a track whore then buy a local ED6 and go mad with that.

x2 on please dont hack up a genuine EF9.

If you wanna k swap an EF/ED chassis, get an aus delivered one.

As for clearance, the k is too big to fit under a standard bonnet, terrible picture, but the green outline is where the top of the motor/intake manifold is. you can see the bonnet.

23206

Even the SIR bonnet raise isnt enough.

Youll need to do this.

Really? So they will cut the price by 10-15k as a special?

If thats the case I would drive my car from Perth to Syd to get it done cheaper then 10k

Hmm 5.5k for an k swap?

Okay OP letme lay something down for you before you get ripped off somewhere.

The turn key package from a trusted and proven supplier will reach upwards of 7K.

Now this excludes the engine and gear. We are only talking about things like engine mounts, wiring, KPro, Shifter box, cables, IVAC rotation plate etc etc cos i dont know full part list for EF9 Kswap.

But I do know how much a k swap cost.

Now say Ill be nice here... you go pick up 2010 FN2 Engine and Gearbox. Wreckers normally ask 3k for this, I have been able to talk em down to 2.5k cash on the spot.

Now, lets see Kswap parts + engine + gbox = approx 10K and your dick hasn't even been wet yet.

now you add labour.

Okay so K20z may cause more clearance issues cos of RSP.

Even if you want K20a2 or K20a you gota pay special honda tax on them engines 4-6k for these babies.

Okay, heres my idea. You restore the EF9 back to original. Every honda fab boy will be fapping at nite to it.

Take your 10k go to Thailand and have intercourse with a village of women.
