Stumbled upon this wen browsing for rims on tirerack.com and cross referencing with bbs.com

It seems that BBS are no longer all German made after their bankruptcy protection in 2007.

As we all know the forged bbs wheels are made in japan, But BBS fans and sellers are always waving the "made in Germany" flag for the rest of the bbs range...

It seems to not be the case, bbs appears to be made from Georgia as well (if Tirerack.com is to be believed)

Here's what I noticed:
1. NON-forged BBS wheels (cast) using 5x114.3 stud pattern (honda/toyota etc) are Made in Georgia
2. NON-forged BBS wheels (cast) using 5x120 stud pattern (BMW etc) are Made in Germany
3. Forged BBS are still from Japan.

It's kinda sad because all of us on the 5*114.3 stud patterns pay the same cost as the 5*120 but ours are made in Eastern Europe (or USA?) while the Beemer folks get German made at the same price.

edit: bbs gone bankrupt completely now. it's been brought out.

^^^ it's my understanding that those 3 or 2 piece wheels are assembled in USA but the metal bits were cast/spuned/forge in Japan and shipped in bits to save shipping.

So i guess you could all those "assembled in USA"?

The wheels that confused me were 1 piece cast wheels, there's nothing to assemble so the whole thing mustve been made at the declared place of manufacture...

Doesn't matter now that the company had been through bankruptcy and sold in bits to others.

Well probably see Chinese or even Rota made bbs's in a few years time....
