Has any1 ever used these programs to tune their ECUS themselves. Im thinking of getting a P28 and using uberdata to program the ECU myself. Has any1 chipped an OBD1 ECU before? I could do it all myself, im just wondering if any1 else has done it and what results did they get??

id really recommend a wideband if u wanna pursue the path.. from someone who has been down that lane, the programs arnt that reliable/bug free also, so be prepared for frustration..

that said they give u plenty of flexability and features and u all the power to config urself, at a small setup price.

I have a P30 that has been chipped. This involved add ing some capacitors, a chip and a socket for the ROM. I also have an RS232 port added and a switc hthat lets me flick between standard and reprogrammed chips.

Have a look on pgmfi.org in the General Hardware Assistance section. Its the sticky at the top of the page. There are heaps of photos.

Weq summed it up nicely, if you like DIY and are prepared for some (minor) frustration and bugs to solve, its is a good path to take. A wideband is essential IMO unless you have access to a dyno.

I've been using Uberdata for a bit over a year now, very happy with the results and even more happy with the learning process it involved

both great programs. I know both John(crome) & Blake (uber) personally. Credit to their efforts.

Weqs comments are accurate, both are buggy, however do have good points.
Also note, neither are realtime, so dont overlook the costs involved in purchasing an emulator and eprom reader/burner & essential Wideband O2 sensor.

Turboedit is not yet available for OBD1, although there is a "special" OBD1 version floating around for those fortunate enough to have it.

I chip ECU's all the time for my ProECU. If you have any issues contact me and I can help.

All these add up, so make you decision an informed one. Good luck

all depends how good your soldering skills are. you can do more damage than good if your new to soldering/desoldering.

at the end of the day its not overly hard but some skill requierd to do a good job :)
