Hey mate. The best thing to do is go out there, go to a few motorbike shops and sit on the thing, take it for a ride, personally see what feels best for you. Other than that, get on to the Netrider forums http://www.netrider.net.au/

these questions are getting worse and worse

get a ducati. and also i think pink pants suit you more, especially when on the ducati, finish off the look with a protruding g-string in red or black that you're sure will show when you lean forward on the bike. do as i say, cos my opinion on what you wear matters more than your own.

your welcome.

You'll want to be comfortable so you enjoy riding more.
With that said though, you'll 'feel' more comfortable on a bike you have your heart set on.
I personally wanted to ride a cbr250rr pretty badly, and I bought one without sitting on anything else.
Also, I'm a little taller and a little lighter and the cbr seems like a nice size.
I sat on a ninja300 and sitting so upright felt awkward. I can only imagine what the wind would be like on a highway.
The new ninja250 you may find a little slow. The 300 is a bit more powerful with more torque than even my cbr, but is ~25kg heavier.
With all of this aside though, just sit on something and take a few for a test ride. If you decide on a bike before you sit on any, you'll be bias. :)

cbr250rr is more of a sports bike than the ninja250r, i find that i gotta learn forward way more than on my ninja if im on the cbr250rr which to me is very uncomfortable after months of the ninja so yeah if you want comfort/relaxed ride go for the ninja, if you want dat sound/acceleration cbr produces over the ninja then get that

well I am actually looking at a LAMs bike over the last couple of days as well.

Im 114 kg's and 180cm and I look kinda small on a Ninja 250 and just plain silly on a CBR250 lol

So im looking at Ninja 650RL instead... and once im off L's I could always just unscrew the limiter *shrugs*

the 650CC?

so far what i've been told once the restrictor screw's out it's basically a Ninja 650R

55kw is plenty for me tbh.

So doesn't that imply you would look smaller on the 650? I'm hoping it was just a typo lol.

I wouldn't unrestrict during lams period just in case you're involved in a crash.
I doubt you would want your insurance voided. :)

He did say after his L's. But yes of course thats correct what your saying Hayday.

The 650 ER-6nL is torque-y right through the rev range. 650 twin pots. Its by no means 'gutless'.

My apologies, you are correct in saying the bike in question was the 250 by the OP. Maybe we should use the quote function to avoid confusion.

Anyway, lets hug. ;)

That's the one DL. A friend of mine just bought one.
Doesn't quite hold its own compared to the older 4 cylinders, but still a step in the right direction compared to the new 250's.
Some nicer tyres out of the factory would have been nice for the $8k price tag though.

what does everyone think of the kawasaki 650L?

once on your opens, would you need to upgrade if you took the restrictor off lol

Nah I know it's not a big job

I'm now torn between a few bikes

Either going to go a 250 or a brand new Kawasaki or Honda

which honda? CBR250R? the single cylinder?

The Ninja 300 looks sweet, not cheap tho.

I don't have any experience on a bike, but I'm getting my licence next month

I don't know whether to get the ninja 250 or 300, or get a bigger bike that may not need to upgrade come opens if I unrestrict it

Eg Kawasaki 650l or Honda cbr500r or the cb500f

Big bikes and new bikes are going to come with a price.
I would say stick with a cheap used 250 because at the end of the day you're a learner and you probably will drop it.

Edit: Also if you unrestrict a bigger bike on your L/P you'll void any insurance you have.
Edit 2: This was actually all in reply to the posts above this, not the OP.

Go the Ninja 300

When you get off your restricted licence you will have people lined up to buy it from you, then the next problem will be "what open class bike" grrrr

You'll quickly grow bored of the 300. They really don't offer much of an upgrade over the 250.
So little of an upgrade, that the price is hardly worth it.
Your best bet, if looking at new-ish bikes, would be to buy a used 250.

Just to be clear though. The EX250 is carbie based on a old motor. The EX300 is EFI and completely new. Ride them back to back and you'll see. The EX300 is a brilliant bike.
The power is good through the whole rev range thanks to the parallel twin motor. It holds power all the way to redline. Smooth delivery too.

There is a reason they used the design of the 250 engine for so long.
It was reliable and tough as nails.
Yes, the 300 is an alright bike, but for the $7 000 you'll pay, you can get a whole lot more for a whole lot less.
