View Full Version : Ozhonda Trader Selection

Just thought I'd clarify a few things regarding the Ozhonda trader selection process. This is of course given the recent allegations made against a particular trader. That trader account has been temporarily suspended until an explanation is given.
First up it should be made clear that we do not and will not allow any illegal or fraudulent activities on Ozhonda. We also do rely on members making moderators aware of any issues. Marketplace (including traders) issues can and should be reported (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/announcement.php?f=11&a=4).
For the most part, traders on here provide goods to members, with a few providing services. One of the requirements of being a trader is that a valid ABN be provided which is the same as the business trading name. This allows members to contact the department of fair trading if anything goes wrong.
That said, given recent events I will be asking more question about traders offering services, in particular I will request any licensing details for these services (including their Motor Vehicle Repairers licence number) and have it displayed in the sticky thread of their section (under "Trader Contact Details"). The Trader Contact Details thread already has contact details and the ABN. The ABN is always verified via http://www.abr.business.gov.au/ to ensure this is valid.
I'm happy to keep this thread open for constructive discussions. If anything goes off topic then this will be closed. Note that this thread is not open for discussion relating to the allegations made against the trader in question, but more for any suggestions associated with benefiting the wider community.

Do traders need to be licensed distributors of brand"X" or is it okay to just be a reseller. Do particular engine management companies provide licenses to tuners after they attend tuning courses or is it free for all?

Will the trader be expelled if they can not provide a valid licence and or ABN under the same business name?

These new rules are yet to be decided - but I would imagine Yes.

I think it may be a good idea for any traders conducting 'work' to carry some sort of liability insurance, in the same way a doctor or engineer would.. Or perhaps some sort of preworks agreement in the event of a dispute.

Pretty sure any paid professional be it sole trader or business model requires personal liability insurance.

Good, I'd like to congratulate the forum for taking the next step in eradicating the dodgy businesses that have been unrightfully thriving in our community.

in that case, will you require proof of this insurance?

Its up to the Rules decided :)
I would think , a valid qualification / license would be enough - this in itself should warrant full insurance/coverage to the consumer. But hey , this is what we are all discussing right now !

This has been a prerequisite for becoming a trader on Ozhonda for some 5+ years now :-)
There is only one trader who's ABN doesn't have his business name associated with it, just him as a sole trader. I'll be sorting this out shortly.

I'll need to confirm this but from what I understand you require all the relevant insurances to get you licensees.

I really do hope this ends up expelling the trader in the center of this whole situation. They wont be able to provide a mechanic/tune qualification and have been ripping people off for too long.
Great work so far Wyn and Mods!!!!

I was of this understanding too but at my workplace we still require proof and verification of these insurances. Qualifications can be faked, such as in the 'Qantas fake engieers' ordeal.

Any new information?
Do the traders that have their accounts suspended get a partial refund on the advertising sponsorship they paid for on this website?

When you pay for advertising sponsorship/trader, etc. You're also agreeing to confirming to forum regulations etc, if they're breached you lose that money. Just like a VIP Forum Member [I dunno what OH call it, subscribed member?] if they're caught multi-accounting or something, they don't get refunded their subscription amount...

why am i finding it so hard to become a trader
licensed mechanic
licensed workshop
registered business name and abn number
i offer top quality service with receipt and parts and labour warranty
and i think that you should contact the MVRIA in regards to licensing issues and makes sure all the traders only provide the services they are permitted to by law

Just thought I'd post an update.
We have decided not to offer a renewal to the trader in question until the allegations are cleared up. The trader access expired on 17 October and we are not offering a renewal at this stage.
I cannot comment on any of the allegations but I urge all members to use the Contact Us (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/sendmessage.php)form to submit any feedback on any matter related to the marketplace. If you don't submit feedback we will never know.
Thread closed.
PS: For the post above mine, I'm not sure what the problem is. I've replied to all queries via the Contact Us form.
