My ED has seemed to develop a a strange habbit of pretending its a v-tec, the car will start accelerating normally then around 3800 the engine note changes and it takes off like it has a little turbo lol Im guessing its supposed to go that hard all the time but something is going on in the low end of the revs, it also doesnt seem to like going anywhere near redline (seems to loose power and take its sweet as time)

is this a common thing? any idea what could be causing it?

Please make sure you know what youre talking about before you go giving out advice.

The carby civic DOES NOT HAVE AN OXYGEN SENSOR

Its a carby, not injected, therefore there is nothing for an oxygen sensor to control!!!11

OP, have you serviced your car lately?

Changed the oil, oil filter, air filter?

I suggest you get some aerosol carby cleaner from a parts store, and give it a good clean, clean all around it, take the airbox off, clean inside the mouths of the carby.

Check all your vacum lines for splitting, because what could be happenng is the ignition timing is out so it feels shit down low, but its timed correctly up top.

Could have to do with the secondaries in teh carbs as well.

Basically just give it a service and a good clean, clean your fuel filter, run some tank/injector cleane through it when you fill up next.

Thanks very much mate will go over it all tonight,

didnt think there was a need for sensors on a carby engine!

Is there any default settings for the carby screws if your not very good and doing it by ear?

thanks again

i know nothing about carby's lol but heres a video to check sensor's
part1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRKki3COMOc

It's probably better to not give any advice at all haha.

I would say to check the distributor as its a vacuum advance dizzy with 2 vac lines going to it. More vacuum more advance. If your car can't produce vacuum at the adequate level (say a split vac line) then the advance will be pulled higher in the RPM range.

Basically follow what mr trism said.

That infamous sensor that goes no where haha (for emissions). No ECU so no control over it.
