Yokohama Australia is putting its new eco-friendly, fuel-saving Geolandar SUV tyre to the test, aiming to cover 100,000km on a single set while saving fuel and offering maximum grip.

The Geolandar SUV HT ECO highway terrain tyre is a quiet, low rolling resistance 'eco tyre' that reduces fuel use through lower rolling resistance, while its high treadwear rating equates to more kilometres of use before replacement is required.

Yokohama employees have already covered 26,249km on the one set of tyres since the real-world test began in July this year, using a Holden Captiva SUV. With the treadwear only reducing by just 20%, the goal of 100,000km is a near certainty. This promises huge savings in both tyres and in fuel for families struggling in today’s financial climate.
Many young families, active couples and empty nesters are now opting for a compact SUV over the traditional Aussie six-cylinder sedan, making it the fastest-growing segment in the domestic new vehicle market.

However, with many SUVs being predominantly front-wheel-drive, and with a body shape and higher ground clearance that is less aerodynamic and often heavier than its sedan and wagon counterparts, the need for a tyre that wears well while saving fuel is paramount.
The new Geolandar SUV tyre, which was released in Japan this February, utilises the company’s patented Orange Oil and Silica rubber compound to increase treadwear and prolong tyre life and without compromising grip, particularly in wet weather driving.
In conjunction with the mileage test, Yokohama Australia has also carried out a low rolling resistance ramp test recently at Sydney Motorsport Park, Eastern Creek where the Geolandar SUV (G055) was tested against 2 major other brands. The results showed the Geolandar SUV HT Eco tyre was 12% better than any other tyre tested.
