hey guys, i just wanted to ask your opinions about my idle issues that im experiencing.

first off, my car has been swapped to a b18c2 with aftermarket parts put into it like s2 IM, s2 stage1 cams with gears, standard I/H/E, and a chipped ecu .

PROBLEM:

1) fluctuating idle: upon startup , engine runs fine idles back to normal around 1200rpm ( I know its a bit high but if lower than 1k, it will fluctuate and die off on me). anyway, idles at 1200rpm then if given a bit of gas, it will then hunt or when im on a dead stop, it hunts. When car is totally warm or has hit vtec which makes it warm, idles fine.

what has been done: cleaned TB, Cleaned and replaced IACV, checked for vacuum leaks with carby cleaner and smoke through IM, reset ECU, wound up FITV

hoses havent been replaced yet and air in cooling system have not checked.

I have no idea if the valves were adjusted properly or the engine needs to be timed properly. TOOK IT TO HONDATEC 2 times still hasnt fixed the problem . all he does is make the car idle higher lol. I dont know if i should take it back to him for the third time cause the mothaF*&^! made me pay 1200 effin ripoff!!!

I would appreciate your input guys. BTW i read a thread and said that he had the same prob because he has launch control in his ecu. same as me. so yeah. il try that too

You have a chipped ecu
What mods is the chipped ecu tuned for?
It sounds like You need to have it tuned to match your mods

check your TPS. It may need to be adjusted.
With the ignition on adjust the TPS to 0.48v with the throttle closed.

My analysis based on similar problems is that the idle is too high, and the ecu will be trying to reduce it to normal. So the ecu will wind the revs down, the basic setting will bump it back up, and then the ecu drops it down, etc. Adjust the idle via the throttle body screw down to normal, and you should be ok.

if it goes below 1k idle, it will hunt bro,, car wont let me

What tuning software was used to program the chip?
Do you know what program is even on the chip?

Where you based at I could come round and take a look. If your in the Sydney area. As I have had a similar issue that I fixed my self.

Your ignition timing could be to far retarded.

Same issue here, b18c2 standard I/H/E. Only happens on cold start, when i touch the throttle it will start to hunt until it warms up, then settles under 1k rpm.
If i start it cold and leave it until it gets warm, no idle hunt.

One of the mechs said it had something to do with the throttle body and that coolant passes through to warm it up? (maybe for extremely cold weather)
Maybe you could try bypass it? Or change to ITR or aftermarket throttle body if you're still running stock

Are your injectors clean and flowing properly?

It's called a Fast Idle Thermo Valve. It's under the throttle body. only OBD1 and OBD0 vehicles have it. It can be cleaned if it's sticking.

otherwise this might help http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?110641-D16y4-IACV-Clean-and-Throttle-body-removal.-Revs-hunting-Look-here.

Although in the OP's case it appears he's already tried these.

just tried pouring injector cleaner into the tank. i dont know if that helps. when i had my b18a1 engine, i used to use e10(lol i know) and i have no idea if these were the injectors used in the engine swap.

Skunk2 has reported idling issues with their stage 1 camshafts. Try getting the setup properly tuned. Have also heard that upgrading the TB and IM without a tune isn't going to yield power/causes idle issues.

1. Try another ECU
2. Get it tuned.
