View Full Version : New to the whole "Honda thing"
Russ.

Hey,
Im Russ.
I'm kind of a convert to Hondas, as I just sold my Ford Fairmont Ghia, to try and cut fuel costs, insurance costs and all round "un-uniqueness" of the Falcon.
So, I thought Hondas would be a good place to try out something different.
I'm completely new to Hondas, so I know NOTHING at all.
Id be keen to learn as much as I can, from lurking the forums and seeing what everyone else is up to.
Cheers!
Russ.

Welcome
And what Honda were you looking at?
Im thinking Euro
But be warned Honda doesn't have that toqrue-ness that i6 and v6s are known for
hence why they rev harder/higher to get the horsepower/torque

Ive been looking at Accord VTI-S, like the 96 model.
And also stuff like EG, EK Civics, and then Preludes. Just anything really.
VTEC tickles my fancy though :P

As you can see, Im horrible with models and all that. :D
Ask me about Fords though, and Im your man.

honda's are known for their fuel efficiency, reliability and agile ways on track not to mention decent aftermarket support but as said above .. they do lack torque !
I do recommended to read , Honda's are probably the easiest to learn of them all !
Russ.
19-11-2012, 09:03 PM
Yeah they definitely seem interesting!
Torque isn't something I'm fussed about right now, just looking for something fun to drive

Might want to put Integras on that consideration list too

deff have a look into
DC2R , DC5R , EM1 , EP3R , EK4 , EG's and so on ;)
there's a lot out there and engine swaps are also available .. probably the best to do if you want decent power !
also please try to stick to genuine brands with simple modding , nothing rice ! ahah

Im not looking to spend millions of bucks, just maybe a few dollars here and there to get it up and going, whatever THAT is... I need to find a Honda first, lol.

Well what's your budget?
Are you after a sports car?
Sedan?
Or small hatchback?
If you're after a Honda sedan
Get the 96 Vti-S - Sunroof, leather, digital climate control, alloys, VTEC, ABS, cruise control and 2 airbags
Though the VTEC used for accords is more for fuel efficiency than performance
As an Accord man - i'd highly reccomend these cars
Or if you're after *new* accords
Get an Accord Euro
They go for about $13,000 these days
They've been using the same chassis for over 9 years
I cant say much for Honda's sports cars or hatchbacks as i don't own one
But i've heard theyre pretty good
It all depends on what you're after
Good luck
Russ.

I'm after anything really, and at the moment I can't really spend more than $5k.
The 96 Accords do look great, and Ive gone to look at one before (albeit a bit of a rust bucket)
I just need to find the right one.

With that budget, id get something like a dc2 vti-r if you can find a nice one. Just give a few possible cars you have interest a test drive and the rest will solve itself out.

Looks like a Lancer, to my untrained eye.
Maybe you're an EM1 person?

IMHO, one of the best Hondas ever

They are indeed a very sexy Honda. Was initially going to be a first car, but because there weren't many of sale at the time and budget... Ended up getting a dc2.

Yeah that doesn't look bad at all!
Aren't they a bit rare in Australia though?
If I had to money, Id just import a crazy S2k, if the price comparison between that EM1 is the same.

What about an EJ8? They're relatively cheap and look super nice. Coupe shape just like EM1 as well

Or if you want the facelift front end, an EJ6?

That said, some 4 doors looks really nice when done well. A lot less common than hatches but some look really nice, ie:

But those cars are modded to make them look nicer
90% of those cars atm for sale
Have stock wheels, hub caps, not lowered/stanced/flush, no exhaust pipers, no bbs/work wheels, no body kits
He'll have to spend extra to get those cars to look nice
See where i'm going here?
$5k to spend
Dont like tegs, civics?
Had a falcon ghia (4 door)
Im sure an Accord is the most obvious choice

Couldn't fault a thing in that...
Maybe except for the Accord comment, Im looking at a Prelude on Sunday ;P
And Civic hatches are pretty cool

i got a EG hatch, with the B series Vtec (Known as the FIRST Vtec) and i love it best thing ive ever bought, not the best condition body but dam so fun, and agile.
might be able to pick up a cheap one for under 5k.
may not have aircon though, few ppl skimp out on that to make the engine swap cheaper.
or u can always just start off with a D series Vtec (standard australian model engines), would still be pretty fun in such a light car.

oh yeah d15b, pretty good engine
pm thesaint about it, he can tell you more

I'll see how I got with this Prelude Im looking at. There's also a member from here that is PMing me about an EG hatch he's selling. So I'll see what happens

If anythng get the prelude
As it is a sportier car and can handle more than a civic (suspension/handling/performance wize)
Good luck

Hence my suggestion about the EM1. They look real nice without mods as it is. But definitely Prelude, OP.

nah lude is like a compfy sports tourer,
where as a civic is a family car, which for some reason can easily be fitted with one of hondas most popular Vtec engine series. and ontop of that it weighs so lil.
the two in a completely different class, i dont think u can really compare them.
unless u wanted to use both for the purpose of spirited driving, in case i think the civic would be better because its lighter, you can always hunt for more power but it gets to a stage where you cant go any lighter.
curtis265
22-11-2012, 09:44 AM
still good for sprited driving
lightness and power are for the track, as long as u haev the handling part down you'll still have fun with it

5k can buy a CRX gen 2.
bucket lot of fun! i drove the d16 one, and man, no power, but so nice to drive and feel fast.
love the interior of a CRX too.
but prelude gen 4 is also damn nice too.
