Hi all,

The wife has a FD 06 Civic VTi. Not sure why I did this today, but in neutral I decided to floor the accelerator. Expecting the tacho to hit the 7000rpm redline, but instead the engine bounced around the 5000 rpm mark, refusing to go higher. Is this something normal, that the ECU does whilst in neutral or am I looking at something bigger?

Thanks in advance.

its supposed to do that you dont blow the engine

If it's in neutral you can only rev up to certain RPM's

I would have thought it would hit the rev limiter at the redline mark, which is about 7500rpm, not 5000rpm. So the redline mark only applies when moving and not in neutral?

Thanks for the quick reply.

What Fredoops said. There is an electronic rev limiter, and in neutral its so you don't break the transmission by dumping the clutch at 8.2k rpm.

You'll find that most cars made after about 04/05 had tis feature.

As said, its to stop engine damage if you accidently rev it while in neutral.
