Hey guys I'm looking at buying a dc2 integra with the b18 vtec engine. I wanna know how to tell if its a vti or vtir or not? What should I be looking for?

the dc2 doesnt come as a vti - the variants are GSI (DC4), VTI-R (DC2) or Type r (DC2)

i would say a good way to determine would be to check the VIN - it should have DC2 in it - a DC4 will be a GSI chassis

gsr = vtir engine
r = type r engine

Check the vin number. And also the engine number. And with a type R check that the number under the handbrake also matches the vin number!

To find what vin, engine number it should be. Check Redbook.com.au

I think the GSI is dc4 B18b
VTIR DC2 B18c2

type R Dc2 B18c7

From a more immediate standpoint, check the side mouldings on the doors. The GSi will have black plastic, while the VTi-R will have body-colour. The Type R will have no side moulding at all.

Of course, there is the possibility that somebody may have painted their GSi moulding so that it looks like a VTi-R, or removed it so that it looks like a Type R, so definitely check engine numbers etc. But, generally, this is the quickest and easiest way to tell which car is which.

Good luck with your purchase!

As stated, only VTiR and GSi.

Dead giveaway under the engine:

VTiR - VTEC engine can be identified by this picture, (VTEC cover AND VTEC solenoid, also look for the code B18C2 stamp on the engine block where tthe red arrow is) also take note of the 'clam shell intake manifold'

GSI engine bay:

Also with the VIN number, a VTIR should be JHMDC238. GSi would be JHMDC23or4 then 5or6 (90% sure)

ok thanks alot guys, i already know about the engine number.. i havent seen any pics of the engine yet still waiting on them before i even bother going to look at it. it does have the side moulds on the doors and it seems to stop at the front guards - is that with every integra? or have they changed the front end? cos the car has aftermarket front bar when they bought it "because the standard one was cracked when they bought it" and they also changed the radiator and all hoses 6 months ago. yes i asked for a picture of the radiator support... she has told me it is a vtec 1.8l, it has a sunroof and i have noticed its a 4 stud if that changes anything?

seems to have only drivers airbag so im guessing its vtir?

also look at the bonnet alignment, im thinking its had a front ender accident? :S

Cluster shows 8,300rpm redline. Another indication of VTiR model.

I would consider a mechanic inspection, that front bar is terrible.

carssales VIN shows JHMDC23800S100438

Do you need anymore proof?

Get a pic of the engine bay, VIN and engine number if you are still skeptic..

Correct me if wrong - but the gsi came standard with steelies/hubcaps and the vtir with mag wheels ( fat fives or blades)

Is it me, or does the airbag section of the steering wheel looked popped out a bit/not aligned?

I think it looks bloody awful. Maybe it's fine mechanically, but usually if a car looks that bad cosmetically, it won't be that great mechanically, in my experience. Also, the amount you'd have to spend to get it looking okay would be too much for me to consider. That front bar is atrocious, and would have to go.

Its not bad for that price, but i would change the front bar and wheels as there ugly, also noticed the seats look like gsi seats? i know vti-r ones are blackish colour unless there just faded?

Problem is Im sure the OP likes the look - hence the query about it.

To the OP - Go check it out. Take a mate who knows abit about cars or a mechanic friend. Take some basic tools and have alook
