Maybe he has found an aftermarket zorst for a vtir FS second hand and wants to see if it can fit a type r.

Yah, you'd hope he meant a (decent) a/m VTi-R exhaust, cos the OEM Type-R zorst shits all over the OEM VTi-R one..

Are the cat convertors different length (or further back)?

The Mugen twinloop on my DC2 had to be modified ... I thought it might be cos it was actually for a Type R.

cat converters on audm type R and vtir are the same
diff when u compare audm n jdm
diff lengths due to diff amnt of material inside

All JDM spec cats are shorter, hence you have to modify any exhaust ment for a JDM spec vehicle, ie Mugen Apexi, Fujitsubo ect. However if you buy a USDM exhaust like a edelbrock, type 1 racing you will find that the cat legnths compared to the AUDM are the same as apposed to JDM.

Perry:
An exhaust shop fitted it for me ... they indicated that the flange wouldn't bolt up. I believe it was because the pipe was either too long or too short. So a piece was either put in or taken out - what ever the case it was something that required cutting and welding. Thankfully I didnt try to fit it my self at home!
