Hello everyone,

don't know if this is a noob question cause I doubt many people would know, but I don't now where else to post.

I have imported an engine and I am clearing it myself from Brisbane Customs (saves me $150).

I have all the relevant paperwork:
- Bill of Lading
- Invoice of item from seller
- Sea Waybill
- Package decleration from seller

I also have the required customs forms:
- Import Decleration (N10) - form B650
- Registration as a client in the integrated cargo system - form B319

Now this is where I am stuck, on the Import Decleration - Form B650, I am required to write down the Tariff Classification, which I understand is a classification of the item I am importing.

Does anyone know what the Tariff Classification of a engine is?? The customs website has a list of Tariff classification that is split up into 80 or so links, but I cant find an engine classification....

Cheers. Chris.

Hahaha. Valid point! But then how do u learn to be able to do things on your own instead of getting people to the work for u??

Put it down as mechanical parts, the tariff rate is the same if I remembered correctly.

Edit:
Fred to the rescue

84099110 ---- Carburettors for a spark-ignition internal combustion engine (petrol engine) for all other motor vehicles (but not for motorcycles)

Tariff is 5%, or 0% for USA made engines (free trade agreement).

Can anyone explain the whole concept of Tariff? is this like an extra tax, on top of all the other tax?

It's import duty.

There's only "2" taxes

1. Tariff/Import duty
2. GST on top
