the mould missing too,and look how gloss the front bar is and fitment, most likely had passenger side hit at a guess
also along the passenger door and fender its got that paint damage like when you try open the door when the gap is too tight from a shunt

Try and inspect it in daylight and check the paintmatch on panels and chassis damages if any
but from the pics so far it seems somethings happened to the front end before

Well, it looks cleaner and better represented. Then again, passenger side fender angles down wierdly towards the indicator in the last pic. Not sure if it's just the angle the picture is taken from though.

well if thats the case,at least get a b/h series for vtec,d series vtec is not even worth bothering with
however dont just buy a rough car purely if its a b series, still use your head and search for something clean

Get the B-series if the engine isn't sick. It's just cosmetic crap, if the engine is mechanically sound then it's a better option.
No point getting a D16Y1 if you want a 'VTEC engine' which I assume means you want some performance? Y1 has VTEC but is entirely gutless below 4,000RPM and not much better above lol.

Both will cost you money either way. Just find a clean B-swapped EG instead of those two then.
does the bseries have engineers certificate is it registered etc? i would take the blue eg for its condition the red eg looks dodgy. has B series so its a indicator the owner is popping vtec alot lol. good luck tho
