Hey Guys,

recently bought a 93 J-spec Del sol, which has a few issues that i'm looking to get fixed. I can't seem to open the boot at the moment.

i've taken the car to a few auto-electricians and no one seems to know how to get the boot open to fix the problem.

I also rang scottshonda today and provided them with the VIN number. They told me that due to the car being an import, they couldn't do anything for me as they wouldn't be able to order in the parts.

So does anyone know of a place/someone who specialises in hondas or would know about this issue? Anywhere in the sydney region..

Cheers

might be the gear set, might be the module, might be the fuse
too many possibilities mate
try to open it manually, theses a place for wrench or sth
if u cant manually wind it up then the gear set might hv sth wrong

After further investigating have you reset the ECU?
just restted it, works fine, hope for the best!!!!

I read somewhere that http://www.scottshonda.com.au/
They shoud be able to help and maybe cheaper as now they have already fixed one roof and now may know what to do. I think alot of the cost was just finding the problem.

yeh and they said they wouldn't take it because it's an import..

they said that ?!?!So whats the point of being a honda dealer. sheesh.
Okay this is what i got so far.

The electric roof of the CRX basically consists of three units and the control unit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7pHdiqbh1Y

1) Tilt unit: angle sits in the interior and have the responsibility to raise the roof at the rear so that 2 move it can.
Note: If there is a problem with it and is crushed to 99% of gears that can be purchased separately from Honda.

2) Sliding unit: Sits just below the trunk lid, and is responsible for the roof in the inclined state
1) to draw using two rods in the trunk and push it from there back to the car.

3) (Boot) lifter unit: Is responsible automatically move the trunk lid up and down. Be it to get to the trunk, or as a first step to open or close the roof.
In addition, the control unit, which can store error codes and tons of sensors and small components.

IT'S NOW BROKEN, WHAT NOW?
One thing first - The most common defect that occurs with the electric roof is the one that the gears break in the slope unit 1).
These are made of plastic and therefore not particularly stable. Resourceful Honda dealers want you to buy the whole new tilt unit who knows how much it costs and is totally unnecessary.
Buy the gears individually and replace.

1) Control Unit reset: under the hood look at the fuse box (looking from the front on it to open) top left. There draw the 7.5A fuse and replace after a few seconds. Note: This also the engine control unit, and the radio is reset.
2) Important: hand brake and rear window close. This is necessary so that the roof works, but also especially important because the controller if you forget these things already stores an error but there is none (broken hand brake contact)!
3) Roof mechanism try
4) If the error occurred start the ignition and open the trunk.
If that does not even go electric manual crank tool use (See the user manual of the vehicle). Tip: Never store crank tool in the trunk * g * ;)
5) Getting the error code and the error code table look: This (standing behind the car, the panel) Unscrew the top left and see how many times the light of the controller.
6) What do the DashLEDs the speedometer in the operation? If they blink and you have the roof previously operated manually in any way, then you have possibly forgotten everything back to "zero".

PROBLEMS WITH THE BANK UNIT
As previously described, the most common mistake is a break in the gear unit. The gears are to buy it separately (see above).
In another defect in the unit only helps to source the unit as a whole.

PROBLEMS WITH THE SLIDING UNIT
Again, there are plastic gears. However, I have not often heard that this break. There are also cables. These wear out well under some circumstances
Normally it is in the cables but that they "hang" under circumstances when one has reduced the cladding. This can be seen not clearly but here it is:

As the push unit is built you can see to be clear:

Gears:

Otherwise, there are still some possibilities of defect, which is quite rare. The engine may be damaged or the roof rail switch. This is a small switch that simply checks whether the roof is now in the trunk or not. Generally every problem with a sensor failure of the roof mechanism to follow.
Again, always check first with the cable!

PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUNK LIFT UNIT
unfortunately have no experience. There is no known case where this unit has actually made problems.
The entire case consists of two motors and threaded rods. In each case, one can open the trunk over the tool for manual operation, even if it is no longer electrically works. This is done through the compartment behind the seats and a crank.
From time to time, as may happen after a painting, is the missing contact (electrical ground). Without ground contact to the roof is not in motion. The contact is used near the number plate light. If your unsure just check and see.

PROBLEMS WITH THE CONTROL UNIT
There is, though very rare, unfortunately. A new device is likely to be on sale at Honda. .
Cold solder joints can certainly give it even with the already partially> 12years old technique but I know hardly broken, the control unit are again due.

REMOVAL AND MAINTENANCE OF BANK UNIT
To remove the tilt unit you must first remove the B-pillar trim (where the interior light is mounted) to solve. For this, the interior lighting is unscrewed and then once they sucked gently on the panel. You can now open the unit from the bottom (Allen screws) and there is one there is nothing to prevent (For those who fear that). From there, you then have to maintain a prima view of the gears them or change.
Even if the unit squeak - dont leave it neglected too long, properly grease it.
After a few on / off operations should subside squeak and you did something for the durability.
Installation is in reverse order.

this may still all be unclear and im sorry.

So I've managed to get the boot open, turns out it was working the whole time, the lock was just jammed. Now the boot raises from the switch also.

Next problem is one of the gears in the tilt unit (as snoop said above) is completely shattered. I need a new gear made but everyones quoting me around $400 and i don't really want to pay that for a piece of plastic. So if anyone knows somewhere i could get this done cheaper it would help. Or does anyone know a place that would sell the whole tilt unit??
