Hi guys,
i own a 2006 accord euro. lightly modded....
i am asking around on what oil viscosity do people reccomend....? it has a few kms on it now. 150xxx... so should i go a 50 or a 40?
5w50???
10w40???
my mechanic thinks 50...... the owners manual doesnt have anything over 40.
any thoughts???
cheers
Phil
the thicker the safer i reckon maybe loose power abit lol . for 150xxx 40 should be more then enough .

I think stay with 40, 50 seems too think and thicker oil is harder to go thru small passage n holes. Might not be too good for a high tech k24 engine.

If you are not burning oil, use 5w-30 or 10w-30. If you are or you are driving in very hot weather, use 5w-40 or 10w-40. If you have to use 0w-30 or 0w-40, that's fine as well.
Using a 50 grade oil means some risk to the head and VTC system since the tolerances are very tight. That's the reason why 50 grade oils are not listed on the manual.

+1 from me too.
I understand pre-caution, but there's too much caution as well. If the engine is running fine on 30 weight, and not burning any oil, then running a 40 weight would be safe enough. Going to a 50 weight may put more stress on the engine, and thus worse than running the 30. As aaronng said, the VTC gear is pretty sensitive to it's oil.

As what Aaron said,
You don't use high weigh oil for extra "protection".
Not on a K, you'd do more harm than good.

Remember using thicker oil than normal puts more strain on your oil pump - we don't want that going out now do we?

You can go up a step without problems...
So with Honda engines, use 10w30 Honda FEO OEM oil or a 10w40. You can also use a 5w too but that's about it....
But if you're not losing any oil just stay with OEM specs for good engine response and fuel economy.
