Hey Guys, first question, for AUS DC5R do we use H1 for both HID and PIAA Bulbs?

Second, what should i get HID or Bulbs, i know it may sound stupid, but i kinda cant justify spending 400 on HID's

Thanks

try and get hids if you can, i've read a lot of reviews, it's the way to go  lasts longer and can get them real bright! i only got bulbs, heard it's quite common to blow them, mine apparently has lasted since 2003. they may dim after a while too.

HID's all the way!

Theres a group buy for $360 on Nissan silvia at the moment. Check out firesport.com

if i had a car right now, which i dont, due to stupid circumstances, i would definitly get them.

I only wish I could put HID onto my Integra LS..... :( I hate the H4H bulbs that are in there..

I know PIAA are a quality bulb though, but HID own all IMHO

I've had both PIAA bulbs and now Hella 5600K HID's in my DC4.... and naturally the HID's are a hell of a lot better in all aspects.

I have a mate who purchased the same kit as myself in H1 for his Audi A3 accidentally (it turns out A3 lo beam is NOT H1, the HIGH beam is H1), and seeing dc5's take H1 lo beam, let me know if you're interested and I can refer you to him. You may be able to help each other out, lol. :)

Couldn't afford HIDs,
Got FID's
but then again
i couldn't see myself paying out 400 plus dollars on lights
just my opinion though
all i can say is...HID is sexy...

Let's just say HID's tend to light up cops at night like christmas trees. You sure its not worth the $400?

whats the point in buying several sets of bulbs over a few years when you can just get one set of good HIDs and leave it at that. the light is so much brighter, and it just feels a lot safer to drive around at night with them. i spent a lot on 'hid/white/blue/whateverthe****uwannacallthem' 'bulbs, and they were not cheapo ones either. I had osram coolblue, philips bluevisions, philips crystal visions., and they blew on me constantly. i am yet to have any problems with my HIDs. well worth the $600 investment.

nah u would probably get away with it... 6-7000k HID at most.. 8000k might be asking for trouble tho..

Go HID if u got a spare $400 or so lying around..

 :honda:

only if your headlight alignment was waaaaaaaay off ;)
cops just hate blue! so 8000K would sometimes be too much

Definitely HIDs if you do much night driving. They're a huge improvement over halogen and they look sweet as. It's also a joy when you turn them on at night :) Just don't get anything higher than 6500k and you will be fine. Just make sure your headlight angles aren't higher than spec.

I dunno what you get for $400 though. I'd recommend spending a bit more (up to 700) and getting something you know is good quality as you won't have hassles with faulty ballasts/globes.

Speaking of blue, I notice that the new Odyssey has a blue plastic lens part in the headlight assembly... I thought that might've been illegal as an unfriendly police officer tried to give me a ticket for having foglights that had a blue tinge lens...

been there, done that.
Don't argue with them about blue/yellow OEM parts on other cars as it never works. Best thing, just don't do it if you can avoid it.

Yeah don't argue or question the cops, they'll just be even more determined to fulfill their ego/power trip. That time I just turned on the foggies for him to see the light was all white and no blue. So he gave me a fine for having low tyre tread instead (it very close to the tread indicator). Pissed me off majorly.. but what can you do? Waste a day arguing with him in court over $125?! *sigh*

don't change your indicator lights (front, side and read) to those white ones...you'll get in lots of troble...with that 3 stuff, they are eligible to fulfill your DREAM! yea..Defective alrite...and a 165Aud fine...just keep it to amber...

HID would not give you much troble...unless the cops want to get you in troble..hahaha..8000k have low visibility..can't see Shxx at night...but it looks nice...haha..

400Aud for HID sounds reasonable..but i think there's lots of brand nowadays...you might just find a cheaper alternative..

i thought they would be hard but u can actually install them with your eyes closed :D
about 15-20mins for a decent self-install. $400 to spend on HID is fine IMO.

$400 will buy you a semi substandard taiwanese/chinese made kit.

Try and go for a German branded ballast like Hella or Philips (www.xenondepot.com) and make sure you keep your bulb range between 4100K-6500K. Any higher and your beam will be a stupid ricey purple, and project a low level of lumens.

That being said, I've seen a supposed 7000K that was very bright and white....

Depending on how professional and discreet you want your install to be, it will take between 20mins-1.5hrs. :)
