Hey guys I've got a weird problem, I'm trying to change my steering wheel and it's recommended to take out the negative terminal from the battery, only problem is when I take out the negative terminal my alarm sound goes and and won't stop til I plug the battery back in, even if I take both positive and negative out it still sounds?
Anyone know how I could stop this or even disable the alarm?

This is not a weird issue. It's actually a feature of your alarm. Sounds like your alarm has a back up battery and is detecting when someone tries to remove the battery.

Let me explain using examples.

Example 1 - car without back up battery:

A thief wants to break into your car. He smashes your window and the alarm goes off. He quickly opens the bonnet and disconnects the battery (and hence the alarm). The siren is now deactivated and he is able to take his time either stealing your car, or everything in it.

Example 2 - car with back up battery:

The thief wants to break into your car. He smashes your window and the alarm starts going off. He then pops the bonnet and disconnects the battery. '****', he exclaims as the alarm doesn't deactivate. He looks around for the back up battery but it is too well hidden. His balls shrink a bit, scared he might get caught. He reaches in and grabs the ash tray which has $3.45 in it and runs off.

This is the purpose of a back up battery. Of course, it is not perfect but if your system is properly installed it provides a great layer of protection.

How do you disable this? On your alarm module/siren, you should be able to locate a key hole on it. Your alarm would have come with a key or 2 to allow you to disable it. Unfortunately these keys are often loss or overlooked when selling the car, so if it was already installed on your car when you bought it, chances are the keys are lost or with the previous owner. The other way is to find the back up battery and disconnect both (and hope there aren't further fail safes (such as an extra back up battery etc).

No one can really help you with it's location without checking your car. often it will be hidden somewhere in the engine bay (lower down, out if sight) though every installer has their preferred locations, with many getting creative and installing them behind fenders (safe but hard to access/service) to locating them in the interior or boot.

Hope this helps!

In most cases (with the budget alarms) the back up battery is fitted inside the siren housing. If you can see the siren (where the noise is coming from) look for a little key hole on one of the sides and turn it off if you have the key. Don't forget to turn it on afterwards
