Been Scratching my Head over this, looking to lower my car around 1.5" i dont think it would be a dramatic drop, but could improve the overall handling.

looking to spend around $450-500, don't know whether to get both shocks and springs or just springs or what!

I must say there is a lot of dodgy crap out there with a cheap tag on it...

Had a good Read! and to be honest I think I'm Better off Saving for a few more months and just buy a set of good street coilovers, I'd rather be able to have more adaptive suspension so i can add parts to it in the future since im looking to stance it...opinions on decent streeters i can buy in Aus guys? (1500-1800$)

koni shock absorbers with your choice of stock springs perched lower, lowering springs, or ground control coilover sleeves.

that setups would be around $1100 installed though, so besides the fact that coilovers last a lot less longer than a shock and spring setup im better off going up to a coilover setup for what i want to achieve.

what is your goal then.? i'm lowered about 1.5" on shocks only if that's what you're worried about

Ive got koni yellow + ground control sleeves. They give you damper adjustment, height adjustment and your choice of springs upto 600lb, if you want to go harder they can also be re valved for harder springs. thats about as adjustable as it gets in that price range, if you looking to stance your car the GC sleeves will let you drop the car extremely low.

my goal at the moment is to get this hatch looking along the lines of a daily-jdm, drop an inch and a bit, maybe camber arms in the future, front sway bar, control arms etc... but i really did want to turn it into something i could take on the track every-now and then.

so by being practical instead of not having to buy coilovers later i could buy them instead of getting springs and shocks just for the street, or are there "track-quality" shock/spring combos out there, i did hear something about them using them in autocross??

TbM's suggestion is very popular in autocross.

The konis can go very hard and soft enough for the street.

What setup did you end up Purchasing ctx? and how did it end up for yourself?

I just settled for a random custom spring/shock combo from a user here for real cheap. Drops about an inch and retains about 90% factory feel, you feel the road more through your seat and wheel. Had it for nearly 2 months now, hasn't given me any problems, but I am thinking of upgrading soon, if I ever have the money, since I have no idea how reliable it is.

I did initially want BC BR's, then Function and Form Type 1's, and now interested in Koni Yellow shocks+Ground control springs since it's a proven setup that some guys in the US swear by. I'm not keen on the whole stance thing, so a small drop is all I'm after.

If you don't want to go too low (stance low) then a good quality budget would be koni srt.t + tien s-tech. A few members on here has that setup and its a really good quality budget setup. It drops 1.9" F and 1.7" R (correct me if i'm wrong guys).

You'll find that tracking with a nice setup shock/spring combo with the rest of the supporting parts [swaybars, bushes, camber/caster/etc kits] will allow you to control the car better which inspires confidence then you can push harder.

Okay yeahh i will be deffinately be keeping my eyes out for a fresh second hand set of coilovers, whatever they may be as long as they have good rep and meet my need I would be up for them to be honest, sounds like there is marginal differences in the pros and cons of each brand of coilover! Lol

I really do keep hearing Koni Yellow Shocks, and most types of progressive springs are great! I havent seen many people running this in Aus though (not to say there isn't).

Exactly what im intending to do, Havent touched the engine since I've bought it although stdrd is haven a look at it thursday to get the engine running properly, besides that ill just improve it's stock components, no point having pod's and crap. Of coarse I'd be looking at Headers/Exhaust before hitting the track, maybe new clutch/short-shifter.

But besides those intentions i really just want to lock down the body to the rails, and improve It's centre of gravity. and camber arms would be purely for adjustments for when i hit the track and turn those coils to rocks. some nice toe and camber on the rear end can seriously improve the turn-in, in the corners on EK's I believe..

The Eibachs were actually 2 inches drop at the front on my em1 (more than I expected.). Front was one finger gap and rear 2 finger. I did notice a bit of camber wear at the fronts though. Excellent all round spring, and that was with the Koni yellows

haha Thanks, well it will be a toss up between Eibach and Tein S.techs (good ones) i believe theres two different ranges.
