Hey guys thought i might ask for some expertise..
ive got a 99 s2k and it cranks over but doesnt start..
originally i thought it was a faulty coil so i replace coils and spark plugs and still didnt fix the problem.
i then replace fuel pump and fuel filter thinking maybe it was a fuel pump assembly playing up. but stil didnt fix it..
ive done some reading on s2ki and here and have found a few people with similar issues..
They solved their issues with replacing the fuel pump relay..
could some one please assist me in locating it and how to test if that is the issue..

or if anyone know what else the issue could be..

How would I check that?

Fuel pump relay should be near the fuse box area just next to your right leg in the driver's compartment.

does it have any aftermarket alarm parts?
try and look around for anything not OEM in the engine bay (wiring and a speaker/siren)
i had this problem with a datsun i bought last year, ended up having to pull out the whole aftermarket alarm system as it wasnt done right and had subsequently stuffed up

otherwise as you mentioned fuel pump or even crank sensor and fuel pressure

is the crank nice and strong? less common cause is a worn starter that draws so many amps while cranking the engine that there’s not enough juice left to adequately power the ignition system and fuel injectors

Breean, the car is only fitted with the standard s2000 immobilizer so aftermarket alarm is out of the equations lol..
ive check that fuel is being delivered to the fuel rail so everything to do with the fuel system seems to be fine..
im now leaning more towards to crank sensor..
the crank is even and continuous so thats y im under the impression the starter motor is fine..

Its a definite problem, IMMOBILIZER, have the same problem few years ago, you have to take it back to honda dealer and they will fix that, price range from 150 ( easy fix) to 1000 bucks ( if its the immobilizer unit ). Good luck

Umm, check for spark first. Get a spark plug lead (from any car), remove #1 coil and spark plug, connect coil back to the loom connect lead to spark plug and to coil. Place base of spark plug on metal and turn the car over. Look for spark.

okay guys thanks for all the help its not the immobilizer.. took the car to hanny's performance centre and they found the problem within a hour..
My cylinder #3 is having a piston ring issue lol.. causing the spark plug to fail due to minor oil leakage through the rings and getting on the plug..
so this leads me to my next question..
can anyone tell me the cost of rebuilding a f20c?
whether you have rebuilt it back to stock specs or not..
i would like to know roughly both estimates so i know where im heading with my s2k..

Didn't think it was.

And 'OUCH'.

Best just swap in a good used engine. Plenty of donors around these days.

Yeh when Robert from hannys told me that i was spewing..
i really wasnt inspectin it to be something that serious.. but i guess there isnt anything i can do about it now..
Robert suggested just buying a good used engine as well but i just wana work out which would be a cheaper option and the price differences between them..
if im only saving a little bit by gettin a used engine over rebuilding mine.. i would rather just rebuild mine that way i know its brand new..
do u know of anyone in the western sydney area thats selling a f20c preferably out of an ap2?

If that was the problem wouldn't it just run like shit and on 3 cylinders ?

Nar with it only being a very minor leak as soon as the engine starts up and warms up everything expends so the isn't an issue it's only on cold starts that the problem occurs..
Well that's wat I'm assuming so don't take my word for it but after like 10secs the car is normal but on a cold start is sounds like a wrx..

Probably information we could have used earlier.

I cracked rings on two pistons a couple of years ago. It would eventually start but run rough until I gave it some revs.... yadda yadda.

Lol yeh sorry man..
I thought it sounded like a wrx because of lack of fuel that's y it wasn't firing properly that's y I change the fuel pump and filter straight away..
Did u just put new rings or a donor engine?

I bought a dud engine and rebuilt it.

How much did that cost u to rebuild it?

AusS2000

I think I spent about $2.5k on rings, bearing, honing, bolts, chains etc and about 5 litres in blood, sweat and tears.

It was a learning experience and not one I'm eager to repeat.
