View Full Version : d16y8>b16a2?
hey guys, im just after a newer car here. i've been looking around lately and reading posts on other honda forums as well. i've read that the d16y8's could beat a b16a2? but some people say the other way round. so im just confused atm. cause im looking at a del sol or a ej8 atm. i also looked at some youtube videos due to curiosity and it is true that a sohc vtec could beat a dohc vtec. anyways i just wanted to hear your opinions on this, cause it would be really helpful on choosing my next car.

You be trippin...unless the d16 is boosted...
Not only is the b16a DOHC VTEC, but it also has shorter gears

Y8 has superior combustion chambers. Otherwise the a2 is better in every way.
Okay thanks guys. I probably was tripping. I went for ride in my mate's ej8 and then test drove a del sol and yeah I could really tell the difference.

b16a all the way if you are complaring stock to stock.
d16 should be ahead for the first 3 seconds lol. b16 haz no torque but as always DOHC > SOHC

Of course it does. Just not very much :D
Both have bugger all but from experience the B16A has notably more than a SOHC D.

all engines have torque my friend, just a matter of how much :P
for arguments sake if DOHC > SOHC
how does the DOHC non vtec d series in the eg si pair up against the D16Y1?

Pairs up well. Underrated engine. Better low-midrange.

VTEC in the D16Y1 is just so you can go...

D16A8 [EG5 Si] feels quite decent compared to the D16Y1 [EG5 VTi], that lite/baby VTEC is amusing for only 5 seconds... Then you realise to drive normally in traffic you have to use it all the time, then you start noticing VTEC is too much to handle... Then before you know it, VTEC is Overrated lol...
I've only been in a d16y8 from my mates ej8. To me, i dont think its that bad. I could live with a sohc vtec. I own a dc4, but now im thinking of getting an ej8, dc2, or del sol. Lol

i haz d16y4 . i reckon its guttless but at the same time i still have fun in it. actually pretty good for a single cam engine.
Yeah i suppose it can be a bit gutless. Lol. But at the same time i dont mind it.

as a car strictly for handling a SOHC vtec is fine (but that due to the chassis),but on a straight, leaves in the breeze (no pun intended) will be faster and torqueier then you. bit the bullet and get a DOHC vtec.
