Hi, I am planning to do an exhaust upgrade on my base DC5. However, from previous post and from other forums, I have found that Cat back Exhaust system for DC5R is not directly installable on the base model. I am planning to do that whole exhaust system (header, cat, catback) part by part and I am not sure about getting a cat back system designed for DC5 or DC5R. I was wondering if I will encounter any problem with future upgrades if a get a base exhaust system (5 Zigen makes them) or a DC5R system (Mugen twin loop).
Sorry about this noobish question but I am getting very comfused by all the info people provided.
thx guys

hey there.
i've got a base with a dc5r catback ( with modifications to my cat) and gettin my type r headers pretty soon.
dc5r exhaust system will definately have better gains as opposed to the dc5 one.
once u mod ur headers and cat to dc5r then u will only be able to get dc5r catbacks.

so you think i should just mod my cat and get a "R" exhaust for the time being?

its really up to you... if u definately thinkin of getting a full type r exhaust then i wouldn't waste my money on gettin a base catback.. thats just my opinion.
yup exactly...
i would just get an exhaust made for the DC5R...
if i had to do it all over again...i would have saved up for a header, cat and dc5r exhaust and get them all at once...waiting shouldn't be a problem considering the trouble I would saved....instead, i feel like i've wasted all my money...

I have decided to get the Mugen Twin loop Exhaust. I actually have some spare money to grab some headers and cat too..... which ones (brand) will complete the set and save me the problem? about how much will it cost? I live in Melborune so where can i grab them too?
And about modding your cat, what do you actually have to do?
thanks fot the help guys and girls

jdm dc5r header & cat works great. but as for the dc5r cat, you will have to chop the wire for the sensor after the cat and extend it about 20cm or so since its too short. im running a full jdm dc5r exhaust and theres a substantial increase in power over base exhaust. should set you back less than $700 for the header + cat (used)

where can i get used headers and cat? won't i be better off with some new after market headers + high flow cat?

you could do whatever you wish, jdm DC5R headers and cat worked fine for me though. got my stuff off the jdmyard boys.
what are you looking to achieve from it all? midrange/top power?

if you're not worried about the $$$ then get new ones
if you have heaps to spend, get MaximWorks header
Toda, Spoon and 5Zigen all have headers for the DC5R
