I read on this forum a lil while ago that having 19" s on a integra ( obviously applies to other cars aswell ) will cause you to have a slower take off but a higher top end speed. Im not concerned about 19" but i am wondering if 17" s would have a similar effect. I was sort of thinking they might so decied that i would go for 16" but i also really want 17s so i just want to clear it up.

acceleration is affected with larger rims (rim weight, unsprung weight, rolling diameter, tyre contact area) 15's on tegs for performance i believe is ideal

yeah i can even feel it on my 17s, hence why i am going back to 15's when i have the money :p

thnx for the info, i think i might just go 16" then

In the end the wheel is bigger. Taking longer and more effort to have it rotate a full circle compared to a 15inch. It also relates to the weight of the wheel. Heavy the more force it needs to rotate. Even if you find a 19inch light weight (lets say 4kg) rims its still gonna have a longer time to rotate compared to your smaller wheels. In saying that your accleration will be affected by lag but will reach a point of where its the same speed as a smaller rim.

Conclusion Big = slower Small = Faster.

umm not really
if u get low profile tyres they will have the same rolling diameter

19 inch wheels...with the lowest profile tyre ( say 40 ) would no doubt still be even larger than say 15inch rims with the highest tyre profile ( say 60 ) .

its not only the diameter but WIDTH

very true...Panda
i got 18s on 35 mill rubber
u gota weigh up how much performance u want compared to looks

205/60R15 = 205/35R19

Almost identical rolling diameter - the 19" is actually a tiny bit smaller! can be seen here:

But in a mag wheel most of the weight is at the outter lip. On a 19" wheel its 2" further out than a 15" wheel (we're talking radius, not diameter) So even if the wheels were the same weight, in a 19" wheel the weight is proportioned further out and therefore requires more torque to achieve the same acceleration.

Hmmz... I didn't take that tires into consideration. If that case of both 19inch and 15inch bein the same diameter the end result will come down to the weight factor. I'm still forgetting something. I'l get back to it when it pops into my head. Or might read my dynamics book agian.

yeah a 15" 60profile tyre may be the same as a 19" 35profile.....

but who the heck is going to put a 205/60profile tyre on an integra?

Yes you will, and I have.

It's called centrifugal force.

LOL... I know. His GSi's 1/4 mile PB is my set benchmark when mine finally hits WSID... :)

My comment was for those who would have read what he said and believed it....

nice!, i gotta get into the low 15s to look respectable now :p

edit: damn it make that 14.99 :D

wtf... he wasn't joking. LOL...

Nice ETA Omar, I'll let you know how my B18B + 15 x 6.5" Enkeis go sometime soon.

Will try to break that 2.4760ft and hopefully the 1/4 time too..> :)

edit: AFAIK our mods are pretty similar now.

Not if one weighs twice as much as the other...
I've been worried bout this problem for a while and i've learned it comes down to both rolling diameter and weight of the actual wheel. A 19' wheel weighing 15kg is still better than a 15' weighing 30kg (unlikely example - but just goes to prove a point). It's best if you could try and stay close to ur stock rolling diameter- this can be done by choosing low profile tyres. Also, choosing the lighter wheel is obviously better.

But how does the handling get affected
Say on a 15" rim it has a big wall which flexs and rolls
on a 17 with low profiles its gonna give more support ?

Seriusly how much dif is it gonna make ?? .04 second 1/4 mile ???

yeah im interested too in how much difference it actually makes, i think if you get a high quality light 17inch wheel on say a dc2r, you won't be too far off the performance of the stockies?

hmmm well looks like theres a lot too it, i might go 17's yet. will have to look at weight...does anyone know the weight of stock 15's ??
