Face lift and pre face lift

Hey guys, only new to OH and am doing a fair bit of research into civics.

I did a quick search but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Basically I'm looking at EK hatch/coupe vti-r or an EG with a b-series engine.

My question is whats the difference between pre face lifted civics and face lifted ones?

Could you guys maybe provide some pictures?

EK Preface is 96-98 spec:

EK Facelift is 99-00 spec:

The main difference is the front end. Bumper, grill, headlights, fenders and bonnet are different. Additionally, preface spec has moulds on the front and rear bumpers, whereas facelift does not (They are the black plastic parts at the corners of the bumpers).

As you can see, the grill is wider on facelift, the headlights have a more raked-back and sharper styling, the bumper is different with the inclusion of side vents. Mind you, the picture above of the facelift EK has an EK9 (Type R) lip attached, which is a non-standard item on Aussie delivered EK1 Civics and don't come from the factory with them.

Also, the grill on the facelift car is from an EK9 or EM1 - they don't come as standard on EK1.

In terms of the rear:

The main difference here is that facelift has a clear indicator section in the taillights rather than the amber/orange in the preface. Also, note the lack of moulds in the bumper on the facelift. Note that in the facelift picture, the license plate area has been sprayed to match the colour of the car. Normally they are also black in colour and do not differ from preface.

The same goes for coupes. As far as I know, Preface coupe = EJ8 and Facelift coupe = EJ6

The taillights are different. Also, the way the rear bumper curves down at the bottom is different between Preface and facelift coupes. It's a very subtle difference.

The good thing with the EK civic is that all preface models (coupe/sedan/hatch) use the same front end, and all facelift models (coupe/sedan/hatch) use the same front end. So basically, they are the same at the front no matter if it's a coupe sedan or hatch. Some people like to do facelift conversions to their preface Civics.
