hey how are you all?
i am currently driving a ek1 and was thinking of upgrading to a b18c in 3-4 months time, or jus selling my car and getting a ek4,
i would like to know what would i have to do to get the car legal with a b18c, by this i mean things like engineers certificate, and is there any problems that may arise, or am i just better off getting a ek4
and do you guys have any recomendations of ppl or places who may do this conversion
Thanks in adcance
Phi

P.S ive searched and nothing really answered my quesion

Personally I think it would be easier just to get a EK4 then putting a B18C into your EK1. Less Headach.

All depends what you're after mate. If you don't want headachs go with the EK4, but if cars is your hobby, go for the transplant, more headachs but more fun.

headaches = lil things that pop up that you dont expect.
i'm in the process of a b18c swap myself and there are many things that popped up that i didnt expect. just do RESEARCH before you start, this has been covered MANY times by now on ozhonda (can also try honda-tech)

engineers cert should be easy, they might ask for brake upgrade to match the added power however i doubt they will.

Advantages of doing it in an EK4 over an EK1 would include..

- Already wired for vtec (although alot of the loom will need to be changed anyway)
- The EK4 subframe
- Rear disc breaks
...cant think.. someone else can finish this off while i go eat dinner

Phii...you don't need engineers certicate for engine swaps. Only if you are changing compression ratios etc. like turbo charging it.
But as far as i'm away (in WA anyway) you do not need certicate or even a permit for it.

A friend of mine put an ITR DC2 B18C into his EJ9 Hatchback (D14 75 PS), was quite a bit of work in considering parts and labor cost him around 8000 EUR.

Wiring was not plug and play. Needed to upgrade brake system. It certainly was not a simple feat. Problems in legalizing swap appeared however. The DC2 had a different emissions norm than the EJ9. The Facelift EJ9 is EURO3 and the DC2 is EURO2 (not as good) and you can only add new motor if the taxes (the norms) remain the same. Now, he has to prove that the EJ9 was also sold with EURO2 (the prefacelifts were) or that the DC2 engine complies with EURO3 requirements. It has been in the car for about 4 months and hopefully will be legal by Thursday.

go the ek4 as the b16a head is a bit better than the b18c according to many people that do the conversion alot including good performance center
also buying just the b18c block later on down the track wont be as expensive
plus you wont have to upgrade your breaks etc with the ek4
but its up to you in the end
goodlcuk
