Hey guys I have recently started having a issue with my ek civic, the car is not recognising the key in the ignition after its left in there for a period of time. So what's been happening is I come home park the car behind my house, I always leave the key in the ignition during the day and lately when I go to start it again it flashes the green key light on the dash indicating that is does not know the key and won't start. I pull the key out reinsert it and its fine and will start. Do u think the key barrel is stuffed or the immobiliser module? It never used to do this, I tried it with both keys and it does it with both of them. This is the red key system if u know what I mean, it's has the red learning key. Any help would be great, I am worried its gonna stuff up totally and leave me stranded. Cheers guys

Do you have the keyring with alot of dangly metal and sht?
If it keeps flashing green key light, keep restarting until it starts
If it doesn't start take key out for 5 seconds then put back in again
until it starts...

You should always take the key out lol........

Its something to with the immobilizer in the actual key itself

Could be the transponder inside the key isn't communicating with the barrel/immobiliser properly. Why do you leave the key in the ignition anyway? It's likely to be the transponder/immobiliser. When I bought my car it wouldn't start at all because someone used the red key before I bought it (Pro tip; DON'T USE THE RED KEY. IT ENABLES YOUR IMMOBILISER) and I had to get a new immobiliser put in + a new set of keys. Expensive and not fun.

doesnt it need to re-prime the engine before startup? ? so maybe it needs you to put key back and up to prime?

You need to pull the key out every time you shut off the car to restart it (or if key is left in the barrel for a long period of time), it's a safety thing so no need to worry :)

if the green key flashed when you try to start the car the Immo Control unit is not seeing the key, if it does it with both keys then its either the immo control unit to the receiver around the barrel.

as mentioned above lots of metallic items around the key can block communications between the key and receiver. Try removing your key and see if it works first time when you enter the car.
