How would you know that they're worn out, or need replacing?

More than likely a creaking/clicking noise when turning whilst accelerating at low speed. Turning circle can also be affected sometimes too. Also do a check to see if your CV boots are split....you can do this by checking the inside of your rim for a build up of grease and dirt. I say this because water and dirt can get into the CV joint and accelerate degrading.

thanks. turns out my lug nuts weren't tighten so i had a little knocking nose of the rim onto the hub. dangerous. fixed it now. thank god.
