I was with a friend of mine today at the audio shop because he wanted to install a subwoofer in his Pulsar SSS. Anyway, there was an FD Civic in the bay getting its speakers stripped. The installer guy commented that both the front door speakers were wet!
I went and had a chat with him... and he said they still worked of course, but he said that paper base speakers (such as the stock ones in the FD) generally don't like water and I'd be better off with mica based speakers instead because they'd degrade over time? (makes sense because it's paper)

Now after seeing that FD get wet speakers, should I be concerned about my FD Civic speakers? If anyone remembers... a few months ago I posted a thread about Honda genuine mica based co-axials from England, which I got quoted $285 for. I was willing to buy these until my partner got unhappy about putting so much money into the car and not the home. BUT they were the only set with a factory fit and would work OK with the head unit without being underpowered!

Thanks!

Alternatively, you could buy a pouch thing to put behind the speakers, so water going down the window doesn't hit the cone at all... Then it's only water from the front.
Not sure what the pouches are actually called, but I had some in my eg, and they worked well. Thing stinger makes them?
They're like foam sleeves you put in, and mount your speaker too, and they stop them getting wet

They shouldn't really be getting very wet at all unless your window seals are leaking or drain holes in the bottom of the door are blocked. They will still always have some water come into contact with them but it shouldn't be an issue unless it's excessive.

You can get something like this:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_39182_Xscorpion-USP-5465.html

There's also ones that only cover the top half. Alternatively you can cut these, or just use them as they are (not sure how they may or may not affect sound quality).

I dont think its easy to get your speakers wet. Im sure when they designed the car they would've thought about that.
That guy must've had his windows in bad weather or something.
I have an FD aswell and I've gone through 2 floods with the car and my speakers are fine.
I think you're just over thinking it. Besides if the speakers get wet, Its a good excuse to upgrade anyways.
for $280 i can get a pair of Alpine Type R Splits.
