im asuming "sea foaming" refers to using an upperengine cleaner? then yes i think having a clean engine is prolly a good thing. as normal with these things there are good products and bad ones. the most highly recomended would prolly be the subaru product. the peugeot stuff is amazing but costs an arm and a leg (gennerally only used for warranty work and retails for 200 odd per can and 2 are required)

Threebond = Subaru upper engine cleaner.

The Wurth & Nulon versions are also very good, as I have used all four

+1 for the quality of the wurth products, there on car injector clean is awsome.
OP go to your subaru dealer and say "hey gimmy the good cleaner" he will be confused then explain better. or go to super cheap and get the nulon stuf however i think the subaru is the best of the bunch

throttle body cleaner doesnt foam like subaru upper engine cleaner. I would go with the subaru stuff.

My 1998 civic gli was bought with 140,000km...its now on 19x,000...

used upper engine cleaner for the first time and barely any white smoke came out... couldn't see any smoke while standing at the engine bay...I walked to the exhaust and saw a few handfuls of white smoke...the engine stalled.. anyways.. it took a few tries to start and I finished spraying the can while keeping the l revs up....

I guess the engine is fine and doesnt have much carbon build up? It doesnt burn any oil at all between 10,000km services. Car drives pretty much the same in regards to performance.

does more white smoke actually mean more carbon is bring cleaned out?

Yes it does. The Honda intake design is much more effective than the Subaru design so there is not as much carbon build up

black smoke = over fueling

Maybe its just the civic.not a performance engine so less blow by, etc?... my h22a prelude blew quite a lot of white smoke when I sprayed carb cleaner. I bought it with 170,000km.

I've heard of instances where people have seafoam there motor and lost compression in there motor

That would be from dislodging carbon and gunk buildup on the pistons or rings or valves etc

I did it with threebond upper engine cleaner, had very little white smoke. Didn't feel a difference
