Hey guys, I'm going to be purchasing a 2000 ek sedan, and at some point will be doing a B swap. What's the legalities on swapping an engine older than the car it's going into?

Cheers!

You cannot fit an engine to your car that is from an older model.. Put simply. If your car is from 1993 you cannot put an engine in it from a car that was produced in 1992. It must be from the same year or later.

Sure it can be done. But I'm also unsure with regards to what happens when you get pulled over (Officer checks engine against chassis....)? Besides pretty sure it's been done.

Good luck!

Yeah my biggest concern is if I get pulled over and they begin the rear end investigation nawmsayin'.

Yeah that's what I want questioned also. Better off just getting a pre-face EK sedan. But entirely up to you, but as I've mentioned the swap will be illegal on paper somewhere.

Cheers

An efi B16a series engine out of a 1988 CRX can be put into a 2000 Ek civic - just swap over all OBD2b emissions parts onto it.

In saying that , as long as the motor matches or surpasses the emission standard of the chassis it is going in - it can be done.

Ah ok, and by saying that, what do you mean by 'emissions parts'?

Meaning the engine is converted to run OBD1 (92-95) , OBD2a (96-99) or OBD2b (99+) and relevant sensors such as O2 sensor/s , rear vacuum ports etc

You can also get all relevant EPA testing done in order to get it approved, as long as it meets or exceeds.
