My vtir atts prelude is blowing heaps of black smoke especially when vtec kick in. Is this a serious problem and how can I fix it?

You're running too rich. Preludes naturally do this.
It's also possible that there's an issue - but black smoke is normal (as with all sports/sporty cars really..)
Check your air filter.

What oil you running. Try something maby a lil thicker. 10-40 ect! Also a full synthetic will take longer to break down. Meaning wont burn as easy and longer oil life. Id still do ever 10G MAX though!

wrong
he said that black smoke was comming out
black smoke = petrol = running rich
blue smoke = worn piston rings = oil
white smoke = petrol mixing with water

oil burning is quite obvious if your looking for it, and at vtec the ecu also changes the fuel map and its common to see the car run rich here. cars arnt ment to drink oil, i think your confusing it with your lawn mower.
OP give us some more information, have you done any testing?

I disagree, the flash point is not determined solely by it's composition.
