View Full Version : K20a3 engine chatter when cold
Guys bought a 02 DC5 recently and when cold has a slight chatter im guessing from the valves.
When it warms up after a few minutes its barely noticeable.
Its got 140k on it with regular servicing.
The question is what to do to get rid of the chatter?
Any suggestions ?
Any One ?
If it's the valves Is it possible to adjust them yourself or is it a bit involved ?

What do you mean by chattering exactly?

Slight tapping/ticking noise noise in the head is my guess.

Yeh sounds like a tapping/ticking noise , if i had to guess i would say valve noise but not sure on these k20's.
when it warms up say after 5 min it isnt that noticeable.
Ive replaced oil and filter with quality fully synthetic oil and did a flush treatment before hand but didn't resolve the issue.

Not sure what happened to my previous post put i also added in about the timing chain.
When was that tensioned last? Usually if that is loose it can cause the similar noise. Evos have the same problem with noise valves cause by trapped air which needs adjusting - not sure if it is the same with the k20s.

Check valve clearances.
Thanks guys its probably going to get the 160k service early as that is suppose to include the valve clearances being checked.
