I own the 8th gen civic hatch and i love it.

funny thing is the newer ones are still 8th gen models.

They just have a major major facelift.

The 8th gen just looks nicer to me, newer one has a few flaws in it that i hate(like handbrake next to passenger)

Would love to see the after effects of a drunk or a child pulling up the handbrake. since it is right next to them.

I can see no logical reason for putting it there.

curtis265
08-04-2013, 11:25 AM
What's stopping them from doing it when it's on the driver side? My cousin did it once in my grandmother's car. The handbrake's are hardly tight enough for you to do handbrakeys while cornering at street (normal) speeds anyway.

What other transmissions do honda offer besides auto?

CVT-yes but not for the civic.
Auto-Automatic only cars urk me and if honda do not stop it, next car may be a Hyundai.
Manual-Only on base models.

Best way to describe it as an automated manual.

You can put it into automatic mode where shifts for the best economy or you can put it into +/- mode which acts as a manual

Everything really.

Jazz, Civic, CR-V.

The civic sport sedan is auto only.
But to me Sports and automatic do not go together.

One reason why my next car my not be a honda, i would laugh if Honda Australia gave us an automatic civic type R in 2016/2017.

If i badly want a high end model i will import it.

My friend bought VtiL top spec just months ago when Honda has special for $27k with special color, pearl metallic, n leather seats. Compare with my FD1 sedan my2011, their civic hatch better in: built, interior finish, practicality from hatch, and more features of course than my vti. However, I don't like the auto only for VtiL. I test drive it, imo I prefer driving with manual stick than with paddle shift. I feel more grunt with manual trans. The hatch's body is heavier than the 2011 sedan. And I didn't hear the unique exhaust tone when revving.
Unfortunately, I didn't drive for long trip, I could not comment about the suspension. The civic hatch' suspension uses similar system with jazz, front strut n rear torsion beam. With Jazz, the ride is not as comfy as civic, especially those who sit at the back seat. The torsion beam at jazz cannot absorb the road bump as good as the civic' multilink suspension.
And sit at back seat of the civic hatch, I did not feel as roomy as in my Jazz GE. I think it's because of the smaller windows.

I think in Europe where civic hatch come from (Swindon, England), it tries to compete with VW Golf. That explains the good built quality. And the stalks for indicator and wiper are opposite than FD1 sedan, just like the european car.

That will be a massive fail if they did come in auto, also I didnt like the rear seat layout like the Jazz to me it seems like they are trying to cut cost.. I guess there is potential for wide etc like the BTCC.

The suspension could be softer on the hatch, just so you do not feel the jolts as harshly but this was on the 2010 model, not fully sure how the major facelift models are like.

The Civic Sport Sedan is Auto only.

Not to mention we get a separate Type R from the UK folk.

True but it seems honda will think most buyers of the Type R are people are dads who want a fun car, that can still take the family around(like an M3 or M5)

That only has the 8th gen.

From what i have heard the 9th gen has a new suspension layout so 8th gen kits will not work.

Given that the chassis code and well I am guessing the chassis itself is the same wonder how many if any of the mods for the 8th gen will fit the 9th?

I would guess not many...

Suspension is completely different. In fact all the mountings have hanged at the rear. All the body panels have changed and the engines revised with new layouts for air filters, ECUs etc

its not a custom colour, its a standard colour you can order on the hatch, Its the same white pearl on the CRV, ACCORD and ACCORD EURO. nothing custom about it at all. just a standard colour choice.

Picked up mine last Sunday, white VTI-LN with deluxe floor mats, boot liner, accent lighting and rear Parkin sensors

Already added white LED interior lights to replace the crap

Gotta get my hands on a K&N filter for it

Then lower and a nice set of matt black wheels for it

Wife is going to kill me I think!!!

Why get new wheels.

Get some plastidip and paint your wheels matt black.

Good thing about plastidip is it is removable.

Wouldnt bother with a K&N panel filter for it, OEM one is very good(odd i know), but from what the brits will tell you, the panel filter is a tiny bit better.
So no real need to get it since you will not get any performance gains or MPG gains.

Hi there,

I have just joined OzHonda.

I picked up a MY13 Civic VTiL hatch this week. It's a great car to drive, looks well made and it is practical for the family. I just hope that all of the fancy electronics dont start going wrong after 3 or 4 years. One reason I went Honda this time was that I was sick of constantly fixing my VW Golf.

Thank you for the welcome, happy to be part of this Honda community.

I have had 2 Golf IVs from new. The first one was a Wolfsburg built lemon and the second one a 2004 Golf Sport was much better, but was still troublesome compared to Japanese cars I've owned. Examples of issues are, multiple electrical faults/failures, degradation of plastics (finish and plastics going brittle and breaking down, like the dipstick crumbling in my hands), lots of squeeks and rattles. The drive train was robust though, certainly much beter than DSG and Twincharger drivetrains on Golf VIs.

I trust Honda's engineering and production quality and the fact that the Civic runs a proven fuel injected engine and a proven torque converter auto. Assuming the electrics stay relaible for a decade this Civic should prove a good choice.

On the old model the most common faults in the UK were the following.

MICU draining battery(australia did not get this issue)
Immobilize locking out car with jump starts(Australia did not get this issue)
EPS controller failure(Not heard of any AU models getting this issue)
Speedometer LCD failure(Few UK users got this, I also got this)
Stereo/CC LCD failure(Few UK uses got this, Not heard of any AU models getting this issue)
Bonnet Alarm Sensor Switch(A lot of failures in the UK, not heard of any issues in AU about this yet)

While i am talking about faults, if you own a manual FN2 or a manual FK2 watch out for the bloody clutch master cylinder seal failure, it will squeak when you press in the clutch or the roof rusting.

I also own a 2010 FK2.

Most of those were from 2006~2008.

Australia got the FK/FN in 2008 or 2009 so most of those issues should not effect australian models but it pays to be vigilant.

My FK2 suffered from the clutch master cylinder issue and it was a pain in the butt to get the dealer to try to fix it.
Got the the australian model uses a australian part for the clutch.

Yup i can see Honda designing an identical clutch master cylinder but made for us australians.

And i check for rust each fortnight in one place mainly.
this is an example of it, it happens above the windshield and roof under the cowling.

I bought my first brand new car on Sunday down at Autosports Honda, great chap named Phil there, hooked me up for 21k brand new VTi-S Hatch in manual, only built last month with mats and boot tray free, 5yr warranty/road side assist and Rego w B&W plates. Will arrive in Sydney on the 20th. Does anyone know where I could find a similar product to the carbon fibre looking bolt on body kit accessories? The ones that are in the catalogue for the rear & front Bumper & the side skirt. Honda quoted me for 1.2k but it came as a pack with the spoiler (which I didn’t want) and steel petrol lid. Is it also cheaper to buy aftermarket fog lights? Honda quoted me for $550 excl labour cost.

Is there an aftermarket shop which focuses on Honda’s? I also want to lower it and give it a nice but not too loud vroom sound (I think it’s the exhaust I have to mod lol). I don’t know any of these because I came out of an old stock ’00 Corolla Ascent Auto lol. This new Civic is like 1 million times better!

Congrats on the new car! If I was you I'd keep it stock or add the Honda bits, you avoid possible warranty and insurance issues if you go aftermarket. I'm loving my VTiL hatch and thats after owing 2 VW Golfs.

Yeah, not planning to heavily mod it. Just want a nice sound and a slightly lower appearance. I want it to look like this https://www.dropbox.com/s/1yvmdl0e2d339cf/2013-Honda-Civic-Hatchback.jpg (pshopped by me)

The foglights for the VTI-S can be gotten for $403.94 delivered and they are genuine.
And an auto sparkie can install them cheaper than honda.
Only issue is you wont have warranty on them

Just involes you getting them from an overseas honda dealer.

I would recommend Cox motor group for any item you want for the civic since they have a larger range of extras, than hodna australia

Hey, thanks for the link! Exactly what I needed! The Honda dealership i bought my car from said warranty is still there as long as they install it, better than paying $550 for the fog lights via the dealership. Unfortunately though the carbon looking front&rear bumper add-ons and side skirts can't be shipped here.

Oooh 2014 Civic Type-R? I was looking at used ’08 models as they cost less than a brand new ’13 Civic but I ended up deciding on a brand new car. Any idea if they’re releasing a Type-R Integra in the next 3-5years? Cause I’ll well be able to afford that if I trade/sell my civic then.

Btw, what engine does this 2013 civic run? R18?

Really??? I've looked at the Civic's in their showroom and other dealer showrooms and they all have a date stamp on the hood, on the left side through some sorry of transparent plastic, the dude there said that's the date it was built. Could mine have been built ages ago like late 2012? In the contract, it states "Prod Date: 24 July 2013" "Comp Date: 0101" Don't know wth Comp and 0101 means.. Compliant: January 1 2013? Produced date though he made it clear that's it's fresh, unless...........

Which ones?
I can ask the guy what he can do and if he maybe able to give a cheaper postage.

But the Genuine Honda Civic 5 Door Rear Diffuser-2012> costs £286.44 and delivery is £280.69

Genuine Honda Civic 5 Door Side Skirts-2012>
£279.30 Ex VAT

Delivery is £226.00 to sydney.

So they can be gotten but you have to order them in batches, unless you can arrage something with them.

Total is £2218.67.

That is pounds, when you use current conversion rates that is about $3,850 for all those things.
Postage is the main killer

Best way to do this is ask honda the price for each thing and then go get each item at its cheapest location.

Ah so it doesn't let you check out if you buy all in one go. That's waaay too expensive for the body kit add ons. I think I'm just gonna buy the fog lights from Cox as it works out cheaper and get it installed with the body kit from the dealership. I messaged them if it will fit the Austalian VTi-S (which should) and if they say it does, buying it tomorrow so it gets here when the car does. Cheers man!

They may not even know what an australian VTI-S is even if you give them your VIN number but i think the VTI-S is a crappier version of an SE which is honda UKs base model.

The front add ons look like small plastic bits or is it a full front bumper?
As the £280.69 to sydney is for packages to 65KG and 2 small bits of plastic should not weigh more than 5KG.

I can ask them if you want.

build date is on the bottom of the windscreen. It will be Jan 13. Yours will of been built in 2013 but not last month like u said. that is confusing. I would say the COMP date is july 13 and the build date is jan 13. U have them the wrong way around :) I can assure u it was not built on 24 july. All this makes no difference to re sale or anything. U have 2013 built and complied civic that's all the matters :)

Nah, that's exactly what it says in the contract. "Prod Date: 24 July 2013" Comp Date: 0101". The seller probably made a mistake. Thanks for clarifying the resale and the year built thing, gave a me a mini heart attack that my new car might be already a year old.

Grayfox. Nah dw about it, I'm just gonna buy from the dealership and support the Australian market while they rip me off lol.

yeah it would look funny on the contract with the compliance plate going on the car 6 months before its built lol
