the engine is a d16a8 DOHC non-vtec.
The price for a NEW dizzy , is from $800 - 1200 for a aftermarket or OEM one.
Rebuilding a old dizzy , costs about the $300 mark ( replace igniter , coil + rebuild main bearing). What is your location , as we can guide you in the right direction.
Try to rebuild it first - this is a common problem with our Si - and rebuilding fixes it :) ( been there with my 2 Si's !)
Best of luck.

ill just be crusing at 2 1/2 grand and all of a sudden it will drop to jsut below 2 grand and i would have to plant my foot to the floor to get it back up again. i took it to the mechanics and they told me it was because of the distributor

Where is recommended in sydney to have a dissy rebuilt?
Ive just come in for pulling the head on my mrs' 88 civic to replace the head gasket. An ordeal in itself (damn shitbox hondas  )
Its been pinging its ring off for quite a while now & has started using coolant & spraying me with it when trying to fill it.
Anyway, I popped the dissy cap off & its almost completely full of oil...a major mess.
There is a fair whack of play, maybe 10-15 degrees in the shaft & some metal part inside under the rotor is loose as buggery. Also found a ball bearing in there & a piece of wire looks sorta like it was once a clip maybe.
Id figured id come here & lok for a 2nd hand dissy, got a rude shock when i see some prices gettin thrown around.
So if anyones got 1 let me know otherwise where to take it for someone to look at it?
Cheers.

whereabouts in sydney can u get the dizzy rebuilt..
my d16a8 has been giving me a sudden loss of power..most mechanics reckon it's fuel supply related. but rob @ hanny's says its dizzy bearing..

OMG, dizzys here are so expensive compared to overseas. AU$100 for a rebuilt one and $300 for a new one.
