Cold always take it to Honda, if anything goes wrong after, it's their fault. But every 10 000km you should at least change the engine oil, not just inspect. I believe 40 000km is a minor major service, Engine oil and filter, air filter and perhaps sparks (varies car to car, although if it's iridium then spark change at 100 000km). Honda will still charge your $500 for it though....

DIY, or if you can't, maybe find a member on this forum who will? I'm sure they'll do it for $100.

I did mine at Hanny's at Smithfield. Cost $300 (inclusive of GST) for the service which includes a AFT (honda dw-1) change (1x flush and 1x refill), 0w-20 honda premium oil and a filter change. They did a valve inspection, said there was no odd sound coming from the engine thus no need to align the valve. No pollen filter change (i DIY myself a couple of months back)

Best thing of all, I got to see them work on my car. Took them about 1 hour. 3 guys working on the car. Honda quoted me $550 for the same job.

Did $300 include all oils or you brought your own? From what I can read it does which is a great deal, oh I prefeer to watch my car being worked on as well.
I got quoted $500 and if I bring my own oil and filter will be $414 , looks like I will be calling Hannys, BTW Honda will not change pollen filter on 40k .
They were pretty confident that they will adjust valves tho

$300 includes labour, parts (oil filter) and fluid (ATf and Honda premium oil). For motor oil, you have a choice of Elf or Honda.

Trivett Parramatta said that they will adjust the valve too (included in the 40k service) but from what I have read (and this is just my opinion), they usually dont. They will just listen to the sound emitting from the engine to gauge whether the valve needs adjustment (the mechanic at Hanny's said the same too). But to adjust the valve separately by Honda will take you back about $120 according to Freeloop in one of his posts.

Hanny's is open on Sat and Sunday. Don't bother making an appointment unless you want to get a quote. Just rock up like everybody else.

Hmmm....do we need to change the transmission fluid at 40k service? It sounds too early. Anyway, if you have done 40k service, please share with us about your experience with Hanny's. My one is due soon. Cheers.

I can guarantee your fluid will be worn out and should new changed , I done mine first time at 20-22k and was dark.

Better be safe than sorry

$550 quote for 40k service?!!??? It's only a minor. I was quoted $340 from trivett where I usually get it done, but I'm going to try Hannys as quoted $150+gst..which sounded alot fairer. Its only an oil /filter change.
Mine is manual so no atf req.

I think 40k is Oil + Oil Filter + Air Filter + Pollen Filter. Would prob cost you $70 if you buy it yourself during sales. There's no reason for Honda to charge $550 other than they know they can.

40k service at Honda dealers includes (or supposedly if for $500+) tappets / valve clearance adjustment, that's where the extra $$$ quote goes to.

yes correct but i was advised by honda they will only do it if needed but either way still charge you for it , also after speaking to few mechanics they would want the car for whole day so they can adjust while cold, honda never mentioned this.

I did the 40k service on the weekend, takes about an hour to adjust and check the clearance of the valves. Dead easy to do but the engine needs to be dead cold. All the valves were within specs but i was pedantic and made sure that they are not tight.
The 0w-20 Amsoil has really kept the engine spotlessly clean, I should have taken a photo of the inside.
Did the tranny and oil change at the same time.

u guys know a place that can do the valve clearances in sydney?

im curious too, seeing every dealer you call they all say "YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THEM, THERE ARE NO VALVES TO BE ADJUSTED"
Called the dealers once and they quoted me $200, but want to see if anyone knows of a trustworthy mechanic who is able to do them properly, don't really like servicing at the dealers
