Been trying to get error codes for em1 civic. Bridged the PINS on SCS connector and turned on ignition switch to position 2. MIL just comes on and off like it usually does. No flashes. Any ideas?

did you bridge the 2 pin connector that is blue in colour ?

Yeah shoved a paper clip in there. nothing happened

if it goes into diagnostic mode the MIL on the cluster should come on and stay on.

where did you find the SCS, what colour is it

Found the blue plug on front passenger side. Under the glovebox on the right. Do you think their could be a fault with ECU? ECU is ob2a.

EM1 is OBDIIb

I would deliberately force a fault code into the ECU, perhaps disconnect the MAP sensor while the engine is idling. The MIL should come on, then when you shot the SCS the MIL should pump out code 3 or code 5

you can always reset the ECU after

if you do not get the MIL come on and codes in the ECU the ECU has problems.

ok, EK9 ECU is also OBDIIb

Just wanted to add there is no MIL when I start the car. Does that mean no faults detected?

Anyway started it without the MAP sensor and MIL just stayed on. No flashes. No detection? Is my issue something else non-detectable?

are you bridging this connector

hope your not bridging the 3 pin connector

Yes I was bridging 3 pin. Couldn't see the other. Got code 23- knock sensor. Thanks guys.

Does this mean my knock sensor is faulty or is something else causing a reaction with my Knock sensor?

ECU-MAN

to start with you lucky you haven't killed the ECU, by bridging the DLC 3 pin connector your either sending 12v to the K line or shorting IGP and PG, or you might have damaged the ECU's ability to communicate to the Honda Scan tool.

The EM1 may not have a Knock Sensor however the EK9 ECU is looking for one.

you can diagnose with the below link

ok, EK9 ECU is also OBDIIb

is it the facelift ek9 only OBD2b? or is it the ek9 preface as well

ECU-MAN

the ECU would not start the car is it was the OBDIIa ECU

So does the Em1 have no knock sensor? Should I just diagnose?

And also my ECU says OBD2a, 96-98 on it. Is that an issue?

dorikin

EM1 has knock sensor

EK9 ECU comes in both OBD2 variants

Diagnose the problem

post a photo of the ECU, where the connectors connect to it.

Looks like OBD2a ECU with a jumper harness

Is the ECU code "PCT" (on the sticker)

ECU-MAN

can you fix the link to the image ?

leeman

Hope that works. will have to check ECU code tomorrow.

ECU-MAN

As Dorikin mentioned your running a conversion harness to make that ECU work in the EM1. Check the OBDIIa D6 wire to OBDIIb C3, its probably broken or missing

leeman
10-05-2013, 01:29 PM
Yes it has PCT on sticker.

Is d6 the wire that sits in the last plug go Obd2a?

thanks for link. Checked wire and D6 is connected to C3. I guess ill just test knock sensor.
