Hi guys,

I went to move my gearbox cover and as I put it down, I accidently broke the piece of the plastic that I think gives the gears oil?

How important it this? Will I need a new one? Where from/how much etc?

Thanks!

P.S. It's from a k20 gearbox if you need to know.

not sure if its important but you could try:

drill holes in the broken tab and the unbroken piece (just small ones)
and then use copper or steel wire to stitch it back together, then;
with the 24hr Araldite (not the 5 min stuff cause its not hard enough) glue it up. araldite shouldnt soften in the gear oil but if it did it would be held in place by the wire.
pretty ghetto but it would work dam well.

edit:
or u could heat the wire and poke it through so u dont have to drill which would make fore less leaks, although a lil leak for that shouldnt matter too much.

i thinks its just designed to catch flicked oil, off the gears, and feed it into bearings.

yea i would drill few holes around it and glue it.
the holes would act like liquid nail once glue harden, at least thats what i hope lol.

why would you even risk it with a repair job. might save a few hundred dollars now until your gearbox seizes. then you'll be a few grand out of pocket

I would just replace the broken part.

if repaired proper it would not seize.

Hmmm... Thanks for the opinions and help guys. I work down the road from Honda so I might try pop by after work today and just ask to see how much it'd be to replace it.. or if they even know what that is..

I wouldn't mind giving the repair a go but just scared I might not do it properly. Is "Araldite" a sort of super glue or something? Never heard of it before.

Araldite is a two part epoxy glue - it will only work with both parts mixed
Its strong as nails
You pretty much squeeze the stuff out of both tubes and then mix the glue with a stick or what not
Then put it where you need it and make sure the bonding edges don't move to much

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Jasemas again.

but yes its super strong, and shouldnt go bad with the oil

epoxy bond strength weakens at high temperature, so after hours of driving on a hot day its probably not going to be nice and cool in your gearbox

also, is it item 3 in this exploded view (http://www.oemacuraparts.com/parts-catalog/acura/integra/2001/3dr-type-r/ka5mt/transmission-manual/mt-transmission-housing)? If yes it costs $7USD.

So worst case it would be about $40-$50 AUD (Honda Australia will screw you)

24hr araldite is good for quite high temp.

the 5 minut stuff is no good.

Okay, I went to Honda and it's either $25 or $28. Told them it was from a DC5R gearbox pretty much cause they can't look at an EP3R gearbox. It was 1 of 2 pieces but I just looked at my actual thingy and the one in the piece of paper and pretty sure it'll be the $28 one.

I'll upload a pic later tonight. Left the piece of paper in my car lol.

Edit: And no, it's not item 3. That diagram doesn't have the exact one I broke. But maybe that's equivalent to my one but just for that gearbox.
