prop valves

hey guys,
i have an eg5 with out abs and since the vtir in getting my brakes from has abs im wondering if i have to get a type r prop valve or will my stock eg one be fine?
i mean im sure it will work but is there any reason i should use type r?

type r prop valves wont fit into the eg. you either need need to get them from EG6, del sol, EK4??, dc2 vtir.
the only type r prop valve that will fit is the '96 spec dc2r. go to the wreckers for it i think...

ok but do i need to change my prop valve at all?

it would be best to because your increasing the area of braking performance and pressure. you should also upgrade your booster and master cylinder while your there.
im not sure on what the numbers mean on the prop valve, some say the higher the number the better??

i am changine my master and booster.. what i need to know is there a reason i should/need to change the prop valve, personaly i have never heard of one failing but other then distributing the brake fluid i dont know if it serves any other purpose?

well you are up sizing your caliper/rotors as well as increasing pressure with the upgraded booster and master cylinder.
i think it would be wise as the standard eg one may not be up to the task. stick with it and post up your opinion whether its worth sticking to standard or upgrading...

i wouldnt have an issue with that as i have heard several people say not to worry about it but since i dont really know much about prop valves i figured id ask.
so dose anyone elce know for sure?

you are just upgrading the front right? You already have rear disc yeah?

If so there is no need to change the prop valve as they are the same.

He's changing from a EG5 4-disc setup to to a DC2 VTiR setup. The only difference I know of between these two is the front discs are 262mm on the DC2 brakes and 242mm on the EG brakes.

I'm not an expert on brakes but isn't the purpose of a proportional valve to distribute the fluid pressure differently to the front and rear brakes? For example 60% front 40% rear? In which case I cannot see any reason why it would fail when using bigger brakes.

That said, you probably want to make sure that the distribution you are getting is right for the DC2 brakes for them to perform properly.

Maybe take some photos of the unit and post any numbers imprinted on it and I'll look at mine and tell you if it's the same?

You already have a 40/40 prop valve which is suited for a rear disc setup.

The only other type is 40/30 which is suited for a rear drum setup.

If u r upgrading ur master cylinder make sure you bench bleed it first. This will ensure there isnt any air bubbles trap in the system or else you can be bleeding your brakes for awhile.
