Which is more value for $ greddy turbo kit or AVO??
AVO stage 1 is $4800
and greddy is AU$2800(arrived in Oz) without IC and piping ...

for the AVO kit just wondering if I can install it myself, does it include step by step instructions to save costs...
and does the AVO kit include ECU?
thanks

avo stage 1 only gives you a piggy back ecu. stage 2 is when u get the Link ecu

vafc is a vtec controller.

and when i said "link" ecu, its a whole ecu replacement
LINK is the actual brand name

To answer your question, yes, the VAFC are a piggyback system.

Isnt AVO stage one like a 400hp kit? whats the greddy one I would guess at 300 or less. All depends what you want/need avo has intercooler, if i remember, but the greddy kit would come with an emanage ecu, yes/no?.

greddy comes with emanage it is also a piggybank not ecu..

anyone ever installed an AVO kit on their own???

I have a Avo Stage 2 Kit on my Gen 3 Crx B16A2. The kit is the same for the civic with slight mods to the intercooler mounts. The kit comes with GT28R 320hp Garret B Bearing Turbo, decent size bar & plate FMIC, log type exhaust manifold, 2.5" stainless dump pipe to cat, 500cc injectors, 600hp fuel pump, rubber & mild steel piping, stand alone Link Ecu. It includes all other accesories clamps, bolts etc. Avo promise 135-145kw @ Wheels with 9psi boost with a safe tune (your exhaust system from Cat back has to be upgraded).

As far as I know the Stage 1 kit is exactly the same, minus the injectors, fuel pump, and you get a piggyback instead of the stand alone.

Sorry, I don't know much about the Greedy kit.

I would not mess around with trying to install it on my own. It depends on mechanically minded your are.

Hope this helps.

dude i think go with the greddy turbo kit for the civic. As far as i know e-management lacks tunnning when doing a turbo upgrade of this level. i would be more incline to sell the e-manage and swap it for a apexi power fc, if not use a stand alone like microtech or motec if ur budget allows it. As for intercooler, i think get a fmic like one for sale atm hybrid about 350-440 depends who u know and custom the pipe work. Take no longer then 3 day for the job. complete. that is my 2 cents worth anyway.

dont mean to miss point of the thread but i thought this might benefit puffymom as well, can i ask DLO01 how much did the install of your stage 2 Avo turbo kit cost for install and tuning and how long, and did you need any other engine mods internals?also clutch swap to a HD item necessary or not??

Hey. Upgrading your clutch is a must as the standard one will slip as is upgrading your exhaust from your cat back. The Avo kits are direct bolt on a standard B16A (no mods done internally) I have mentioned that in other threads. As for the other information about prices of tunning and installation, I am sure you can all find out that sort of info, call Avo, call some tuning places. I get asked those question almost every day. Its just as easy to give some places a call. :D

i havent had the civics clutch upgraded and it still runs like a dream. so smooth and soft :) and it doesnt slip either!

installation and tuning will probly set chUuu back around 1k-1.5k

Guys, what is the power gain between the two? Quailty difference? There is quite a large price gap between the two but they seem to be similar. Also is there another option within the same field/price range?

Would you also suggest buy the part seperately instead of buying a package?

z3lda
28-03-2005, 11:58 PM
a kit is easier to get started becuz all the parts are there for you ready to go, where as a custom job u'll have to find each and every single part which could take u forever.

with avo turbo kits, theres a well known shop that installs and tune "avo" LOL! obviously...lol
with the grddy kit u'll find it pretty hard to find someone to install and tune it for you as avo only installs and tune there own kits.

difference betwen kits..? avo = link piggy back ecu/rubber pipin. grddy = emange piggy back ecu + steel piping. everything else is pretty much similar

either kits are easy to install, but neither are that great as they are.

Sorry as an edit, id better explain abit:

AVO is link piggyback, makes them prettymuch the only ppl to use the system and tune it. The turbo placement makes any further upgrades almost impossible, wihtout redo-ing the ssytem. Also lacks fuel mgt, i find the extra injector thing abit unprecise especially since we are playing with the engine here.

Greddy is abit better witha wider variety of shops tuning the e-manage. the kit lacks fuel upgrades, and the turbo is abit small for the honda engine.

Well whats the next suggestion out side the avo, greedy range? Buy parts seperately? or are there other kits out there?

theres plenty of kits out there, otherwise talk to ur mechanic

the avo kit is around the 320hp mark ! an thats good power for a 1.6ltr an only stage 1 kit ;)

pornstar
29-03-2005, 04:12 PM
not a chance stage one at 320hp, please get ur facts straight

10KRPM

There are compromises with those 2 mentioned kits, as pornstar has pointed out. I think realistically to do a turbo kit properly you would have to spend the dolllars and theres no short cuts otherwise the price is your blown engine :D

Basically to turbo your car you would need :
injectors
fuel pump
ecu
turbo manifold
turbo
bov
intercooler
intercooler piping
exhaust

You might be able to get away without replacing the injectors by upping the pressure of the fuel going through the stocko injectors but thats kind of a band aid solution.

320hp is wat the turbo can put out max. then its upto your engine whether it can handle the power or not
if the turbo is rate at 320hp max doesnt thats wat ur engines gonna put out.

Also dont accept just cos a turbo is rated at 320hp max....that its meant to be run at its max.......

Look at the flow charts of a few turbos and you will see what i mean.

my mates running an emanage on his R34, it does everything that he needs and is easy to tune, plus he doesnt need a hand controller like the power fc (which ive heard costs a fair bit), all you need is a $50 laptop...

i was looking at the greddy kit and it looks quite good, havnt had a good look at the avo kit though...

you can pick up a 600x300x76 hybrid cooler cheap as chips now, piping would prolly be the more expensive part of it

10KRPM
08-04-2005, 04:55 PM
i dont think you could ever get a 50 dollar laptop......even if it fell out of the back of a truck.

Plus you can get apexi fc now for around the 1k mark with hand controller.

hey snowman, dat's what i got. And yes i got charged $500 at customs. And i since i already got a vafc i had to buy some larger injectors. It all adds up quickly!!!!

Fro-Daddy

well an emanage i know can be picked up for $450-$500, and a laptop only needs to be like a 90MHz thing, nothing powerful, just windows 98 and that program on a 1gig hdd...

Hehe GSI_PSI dont forget the fact that the AVO kit also comes with a GT series garrett turbo, which shits on the greddy item oh and the other important factor that it also includes a intercooler, which is a must for reliabilty of the whole system.
