Hey guys, was planning to get a cold air intake but the some people suggest injen, then other half suggest simota, what do you guys think and reasons?!

theyre both just a pod on a pipe with stupid pricetag m8

charliebrown sounded butthurt as f***.

Get K&N Typhoon CAI. I was considering Injen- but according to a heeltoe review, K&N performs better (is cheaper) and to me it sounds better as well. I have it in my CL9.

What does it do anyway?
Worth getting?

axispower

the theory behind it is that it brings relatively colder (some say "colder" in a sardonic fashion) air to the engine faster through a more direct route (the pod and pipe) after removing the stock resonator etc.

K&N:

-Sounds great
-my butt dyno says im going a fraction of the properties of a quark faster (a review on heeltoe says its the better one for performance)
-looks cool in engine bay
-cost me... approx $375 incl. postage from heeltoe

For me it was worth it. Because im young and have money to burn.

Can you link me to the K&N Typhoon CAI from heeltoe please? Also are they defectable since its like open?

Get the K&N Typhoon!
but look around ebay or amazon to find a cheaper price!
Im pretty sure all CAI's are defects (can someone confirm)
if you want something thats not a defect get the CT Icebox!

28-05-2013, 09:44 AM
The injen one is SRI and CAI, the SRI will be easy to defect as it doesnt go down and the CAI goes down and it will be harder to see, the simota one is not defectable as it is closed up haha, the K&N one i am not too sure :S

I like the K&N better but the cost i can't justify the extra $80 or so

K&N, makes more power than Injen.

charliebrown sounded butthurt as f***.
technically he's right.

Can the k&n be used as sri and cai? Also would it be defectable to have the k&n?

axispower
28-05-2013, 11:19 AM
^I know technically he is. Perhaps I should have just asked him to fashion me (and the OP) a "pod and a pipe" to fit my CL9. Would have been much easier hey? We would have saved like... a few hundred bucks, probably sacrificed quality, and then we could also be heroes and get butthurt at other retards that want to purchase a brand name CAI.

Most CAI's are exposed filters so they are defectable.

If you want to be safe get an icebox or someting.

Has any of you got defected for cai or sri before?

Black Euro
28-05-2013, 01:31 PM
Being a Euro they wont really pull you over and check under the hood!
But if your running on coilovers and rims the chances of them checking the engine bay is increased!

Im running on coils and rims (18's) and 20% tint and to this day i havent been pulled over (thank god)

deuces
28-05-2013, 01:51 PM
Haha at the moment im running on shocks and springs and some ugly rims probably from like bob janes as i bought it like that, only mods ive done is exhaust basically.

deuces
28-05-2013, 01:52 PM
is AEM any good?

axispower
28-05-2013, 02:00 PM
I've never been pulled over- and even if I am pulled over, the chances they will check the under the hood are very slim- unless they heard me giving it a go or caught me speeding.

Mines lowered by an inch and a half, and has 19s. You dont hear the CAI unless you want to hear it i.e. when you floor it. Just commuting to work etc. at the speed limit and the speed of traffic- you dont hear anything.

Oh haha awesome, that makes me feel a little better haha, how long have you had the k&n typhoon in your cl9 ?

deuces
28-05-2013, 02:16 PM
Also, is k&n typhoon 69 the same as K&N Performance Typhoon Kit or is it two completely different things?

axispower
28-05-2013, 02:33 PM
I think it is the same thing- but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I've had it for about a month.

My receipt from heeltoe says

K&N Performance Typhoon Kit (KNN.69)

axispower

Yeah I'm not sure. Because I have the typhoon performance kit, I'd say go that one.

But follow your heart.

deuces
28-05-2013, 07:17 PM

Also do you know the difference between these two axispower?

This one has the same model number as yours - http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?prod=69-0025TP

This one looks exactly the same and for the cl9 as well but its different model number, and some of the specifications are different like weight, hp and stuff - http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?prod=69-1206TP

axispower
29-05-2013, 03:52 PM

axispower
29-05-2013, 09:30 PM
The K&N sounds fahking great. I'm happy I didn't choose Injen.

Apparently it does- according to the K&N site that you posted (if i remember correctly) :/ you'd have to check again.

But just get it :) its $375 approx. well spent. I scare the bejeezus out of so many humans

Hey Fredoops, do you know if all of those performance kits come with a hydro shield cause some pictures have the hydroshield on the pod filter and some don't have it and just show the red.

axispower
30-05-2013, 09:28 AM
^they should come with it if its new, unused in the box.

Fredoops

^they should come with it if its new, unused in the box.

Injen sells hydro shields separately tho.

axispower
30-05-2013, 02:35 PM
^then get K&N. It comes with it.

deuces
30-05-2013, 05:45 PM
Haha alright sweet, ill grab the k&n whenever i get the money for it haha, do you use the hydro shield axispower or you run the k&n cai without it ?

axispower
30-05-2013, 05:52 PM
Yep i use it. I also put K&N stickers on the pipe. The stickers should come with it. Looking at the stickers makes my 3 inch penor feel like 3.5 inches.

deuces
30-05-2013, 08:12 PM
haha where abouts did you stick it on the pipes? ill probably stick them on as well haha and you know the hydroshield? how does it work? if you cover it how does it suck the air in?

iv always been a CAI man and always bought Fujita (prefer the pod design over K+N and Injen)

but i have to say - i love the comptech icebox on my euro

i borrowed an injen style CAI from a freind to test out for a while before he sold it
reset the ecu to see how it would go ...
the engine note wasnt as good, car was sluggier, had less mid/low end and overall not as good
the only thing that was slightly better was a tiny bit of top end - but not enough to make up for the rest of the shortfalls

went back to the icebox a little suprised, reset the ecu and the car was heeps better again
much nicer engine note, massive torque spike in midrange, low end improved, whole rev range was smoother

i also tried dropping a k+n panel filter into the icebox and sealed the edges
same sort of experience as the CAI but not as bad - went back to the uni filter a happy man
