Hey guys, my FD1 just turned 100,000 and due for service - looking at the logbook doesn't seem major at all with a change in spark plugs so I called the usual dealership that I go to and was quoted ~$560!! They were saying that the spark plugs are 'special' and will cost around $200 to order in..... I'm no newbie but certainly not a specialist mechanic but something tells me that this is not right...

Haha ask whats so special about em ?? That price is double what they should cost.

just go to a Honda spares department and they will give you the part number, when they give you the price tell em you'll have to come back next week as theyre so expensive and then order off ebay.

I bought 2 sets of the stock iridium plugs. 1 set from the US for $60 and the other from UK for $50.

Thanks for the update lolmclol - had a chat with the dealer - they said they were using platinum spark plugs and they had to "tune" the car. Safe to say that I won't be going back to these people again. It's a real shame that these dealerships aren't really transparent about their costs. Where did you get those figures from just out of curiosity?

I just had a quick look on NGK site and it lists IZFR6K-11S (http://www.amazon.com/NGK-IZFR6K-11S-Laser-Iridium-Spark/dp/B002JS9U2U) Iridium for FD1

I would just find a regular alternative

The use of Irridium or Platinum plugs for not only longer service life but for a stronger and more consistant spark than what a copper plug can provide. If the car is equipped with platinum/irridium plugs, you will be hard pressed to find a copper listing
