Hi guys, I remember reading somewhere that a taller oem gear can be fitted to a dc2r gearbox. Can somebody tell me which it is, what car it's from, if it's a direct swap, and what rpm I can expect at 100km/hr. From memory it was a gsi integra gear?

yeah usually people use the LS (gsi) 5th gear for low engine speeds and at high road speeds aka 2500ish RPM on the highway

Yes they are 0.714 ratio, nice highway cruise ratio particularly when you've got a short final drive. I have a set in stock, $199 delivered for the pair (brand new). Speed/rpm will depend on final drive ratio and wheel size, but there are many calculators on the interweb. Direct swap for any b series box, you just replace both the main shaft and countershaft gears - you can even do this in car apparently (I've never done it so don't quote me). Any under driven gear will be weaker but they aren't weak per se. If you're concerned I can shot peen and ISF / REM them if you want to strengthen them. Pm me if you're interested.

I'm not so concerned about the strength of my 5th gear as I don't often nail it in 5th or make a sudden change violently to 5th. Will pm you now

dont think trying to change it with box still attached to engine is a good idea

You think with 4.9fd rpm will go back up to 3400? Box will definately come out

Loving life. Gears 1-4 faster, but better economy and less wear and tear on motor when in 5th (most of the time)

Yes but what fd? I heard bad things about mfactory recently. I know gear x make one, who else? Also $700 for what's essentially 2 cogs is a rip off. But I do want these 2 cogs haha. In theory 5.1fd would make the rpm back up to 3400 in 5th and even quicker in the other gears but I've never seen a 5.1 for b series

I'm sending you some info at the moment. By far the best FD option for street is the kit I've put together which gives you the late DC2 S80 FD (4.785). Kit includes crown wheel, pinion, updated countershaft 1st gear, inner sleeve and 2 x updated needle bearings. Kit ships for $849. I know it's a little more expensive but seriously good. This combined with the LS 5th gears makes the best OEM box combo for street hands down.
