I've explained this to my mechanic, what happens is when shifting from first to second the car use to chirp if I put my foot down hard, these days what happens is there seems to be a slight delay when I put my foot down hard and it's very hard to get it to chirp. My mechanic took it for a drive and said it looks like the engine mounts, the car goes fine but they are starting to wear out. The car is a 94 Integra, and he said it would cost about $400 to replace all 4 mounts. Does that sound right ?

does ur shifter move around while u drive? like as u develope more torque, does it move backwards and forwards? Most likely the reason why u dont chirp anymore is because ur lacking a little power from other area's. Or ur clutch is wearing slightly. or bad fuel. My turbo civic makes alot more power and i hardly ever chirped.

I've had the clutch replaced almost a year ago, I use shell/mobile petrol 99% of the time. I'm really not even concerned about chirping all that much, but the delay in acceleration is whats driving me nuts. The mechanic thinks it's because the engine moves, thus i'm losing torque giving me a slight delay. Reading through the posts i found on search, there's a few helpful things I might try.

All this is based on your tyres not 'chirping' ?

Check your tyres then and / or pressure :)

if it is your engine mounts $400 dollars to replace them is a bargain!! if u do get the mounts replaced at least ask him to show u the old ones.

Had 100,000km service + new tyres done not too long ago, I think it was in Jan this year. Cleaned the injectors, cleaned and reoiled the air filter.

Weq : since you mentioned it, I do notice my shifter move back and forward as I accelerate and then stop accelerating.

yeah probably mounts then if ur shifter is moveing. i remmber when i didnt bolt in my rear mount properly. lol..

what id prolly recommend is get some morotor mount inserts (prothane or whatever). these will work out cheaper then new mounts (if they arnt broken) and u will get better steering response etc etc.

Do engine mounts really improve steering response?

My mechanic called up onlineperformance, the mount inserts cost just a bit over $100 for the set, labour is about $250. I only need the rubber inserts replaced, 3 week wait from onlineperformance :( That's for the energy suspension mounts. Anyone know any other places that would stock them ? Or similar quality mounts.
