I got a second hand '06 Honda Jazz 1.3L. Do you service every 5000km or 10000km?

Welcome to OzHonda mate.

It should be serviced according to the manual.

generally 10000k, and if you want that ibt extra, do a diy oil change at 5000's.

if you're also keen, you can half the replcaement intervals for the all the fluids too

Welcome to Ozhonda! Where we troll and flame and our will.

It's all up to you.

I would say if your using top notch products aka $80/dollar Oils and $15 filters. 10k should suffice. Or every 5k if your motor is trashed or using cheaper products.

I do it every 5k cos Im a ballar!!

And I dont wish to save any oil for my great grand kids.

5,000km if you drive like a race car driver

I would like to drive like a race car but the traffic in Melbourne is horrible.
Any recommendations in Melbourne region for a Jazz servicing? This is a 2006 Jazz with only 77k when I bought it.

The limiting factor in general now is not the oil but oil filter. The good oils are able to last a lot longer than previous with the long life oils even more so [dah] but the filters are yet to catch up. Basically while your oil maybe good for 10k, your average filter is already clogged up by 5k. I've not experimented with long life oil filters yet so can't comment on their effectiveness.

Honda stipulate an oil filter change every second oil change, or 20K km's. I've stuck with their recommendation for my GD Jazz and my GE jazz. 8 years and 150K combined in both cars, no issues with oil, filters engines. I trust Honda and their technical knowledge.

Lol, no comment XD

Unsure cause I know for sure that on several Type-Rs and S2000s that the oil looks reusable while the filter is literally no goodo...

I personally do not believe this should be done. Speaking to a few people and Ryco reps, we have all come to the conclusion that by about 15,000km, the filter is no longer filtrating the oil. I understand that Honda states this in their service guide, but they also recommend leaving the ATF change until 120,000km (which is about 100,000km overdue).

Best bet will be to use good quality oil and change every 10,000km along with replacing oil filter

I suppose 8 years and 100% reliability would make me right. Both engines didn't/dont use any oil between oil changes, and run as smooth as new at all times. Why would Honda risk their reputation on recommending 20K Oil filter changes if it was wrong ? Now some people might personally think it's not possible, and change the filter every oil change, so they can sleep at night, well that's fine. All I'm saying is that I've had no sign of any problem with time and km's to prove it.

Have you pulled your rocker cover or sump off to see what the engine looks like inside? I understand where you are coming from, but if Ryco, one of the biggest oil filter companies, is saying that filters will stop filtrating after 15,000km well I would tend to side with them

Yep. Did the valve clearance on the GD Jazz at 80K. Valvetrain was spotless. I think peoples are getting a little to "anal" these days. We are not talking 70's or 80's technology fuel and oils that we use now. Spend extra if you like, but real world experience ( time and distance ) has told me that there is nothing to worry about here. I think using a good semi synth. oil is the best thing you can do.

Hi all!

Glad I found this forum, am a first time owner of a Honda so quite keen to equip myself with more common knowledge about Hondas and I think I'd found the perfect place!

My Jazz is up for 40k service so am hunting around for a good place to go...have contacted Josh for a quote :)

If you love the car, lets not forget the time interval too. IMO, if you use conventional (dino, mineral) oil - every 6 months, full synthetic oil - every year, regardless of mileage. Jazz manual say every 6 months, but I believe if you use synthetic and good oil filter, you can go the extra distance.

The reason is because oil has lots of additives in it, and they break down. This is why good shops throw away opened oil bottles after sometimes.

Hi in South Africa our jazz are serviced every 15000 km or 10 000 km if u drive severe conditions like a lot of city or short trips . In my opinion I would service it every 10 000 cos that's what I advise my customers ( I repair ,service and tune/modify cars for drag racing). Always use premium brand lubricants and fluids.
