View Full Version : Oxygen Sensor(s)?

Recently replaced my oxygen sensor with a working second hand one because I was getting CEL and traced it back to oxygen sensor as a few others suggested. While the car kinda feels a bit smoother and sounds a little different (probably 99% placebo),
while I was doing it I noticed a second plug for an oxygen sensor, but for as long as ive had the car its only ever had one sensor in the exhaust... and only has one provision for one...
Any information on this? do I need a second in there? or is there two from factory? wtf, im just confused.. :S

EG4 with b16, stock ecu, unsure if obd1/2/whatever, its the 4 wire ones, and theres two, one has always been in use, the other looks like its never been used, its all dirty inside

Yeah I changed the sensor, reset the ecu, but it still rev-hunts at idle, forget if the CEL has come on again, but I think so

Ok well when converting from one wire o2 to 4 wire the 2 black wires being crossed can cause issues. Pull the code and see what you get

whats the engine number?
i would imagine its OBD1?
jump the harness and count the flashes, what number are you getting?
if it is OBD2 you might have 2 o2 sensors?
Can you take a pic of the plug?
and determine if u have another o2 sensor that maybe just unplugged itself hence the code.
or maybe you plugged it into the wrong one.

Why are we assuming the engine was an obd0 that started with a 1 wire o2?

im not assuming its obd0 im assuming its obd1 since its an eg4...which comes with what? a one wire o2

Dats cool as i know it b series do have a 4 wire o2 but since its an eg4 it would have had a D series in it which are as far as i know all 1 wire o2. Sorry for assuming you where on my case.

thats the thing i was under the impression that all obd1 had 4 wire "heated" o2's
but obd0 used the "logic" wire which was an unheated o2 that was allways placed infront of the engine head (high up the exhaust manifold) so that it was heated by the engine more.
b16 sir1 OBD0 O2 location.
1 each for cylinder 1,4 and 2,3

Mines a 4 wire b16, im guessing obd1 then,
its only ever had one attatched, there is no provisions in the exhaust for another. The current sensor is 4 wire and located after the headers collect, and its all plugged in and runs fine, the only problem is the CEL which came up as 43 when i checked and it flashed out to me.
Ill get pics when this rain clears up
