yea should be a good bit of fun a 700kg with a 100+ hp engine shouldn't be to much to get the engine over 100 since i have to put custom manifolds on the car should get me just over the 100hp and that will be fun in a car this small. just hope someone else has done some stuff with the car so that i know what to do

probably he said he was on here, Im mainly on for Information and to have much better access to parts and to allow others to see the information on how to do the swap as there is no information at all anywhere.

for the conversion i had my Mate trolling the Japanese sites reading and searching for any information he could find and that's where we saw the bell housing mods on a city with a 1.5 vtec turbo in it over in japan so at leased we know its possible and Ive seen a 1.6 vtec in one in Malaysia but they massaged the firewall and did something else with the box there really isn't much info but im still searching that possibility

Seeing I've been mentioned, I'd better stick my nose in. Thanks for the kind words 2B, any compliments are welcome. Glad to see you got over this way, Aaron. I wonder if the guy that I told you about that put the Vtec in an SIR model was ever on here. I'm sure I've seen an uncompleted build thread somewhere.

25-06-2013, 05:27 PM
OK, Don't think it's the same guy but here's the thread on here http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?62678-my-little-modifyed-vtec-honda-city-650kg-130kw&highlight=city+vtec+swap. Unfortunately all the pics are lost but on page 7 (last page) he does give a list of the mods and you might be able to glean other info on the way through.

What are your plans for engines ??

How did you go with getting rid of the wreak and parts?
I was going to ask for some but that lil bit of water to tas costs a lil

Dooonster
27-06-2013, 08:36 PM
still haven't got rid of shell ran out of time had so much F@^#^*&#@(#@@#@((#@#@#@#@ with the hub nuts that i finished at about 5 so i have to hang onto it for another week or so. so if u need anything i haven't already taken off or destroyed as you can see a hammer was used to kill frustration on about everything. but there is heaps of good stuff still left on the shell so the suspension and so on is still there. most interior panels are there but dirty and all electrics worked the front bar has fog lights in it and there are so much more.
anyway let me know

After busting my 1/2" drive breaker bar, I graduated to this

3/4" drive with air tool socket and a metre or so of pipe over that which in the case of this particular nut required standing on and jumping up and down to crack it. (other helpful hint) always do it with wheel on ground and handbrake fully applied.

Just had another look at your blog and something you'll need to check. I don't know if this applies to all Honda auto and manual boxes but I have read that the starters are different. Whether this is to do with the ring gears or positions I don't know but as I see you intend to cut and join the bell housings of the GA box and this auto box you'll need to be sure they'll mate up before spending dosh on having it done. Better also sort out flywheel and clutch/fork movement.

If you mean the steelies, they only look good if the rims have been widened and reversed to give deep dish, something like this.

hondapop

So you're planning on using the original engine's flywheel and clutch ? Might be a bit small for the power the Y8 will produce. I've got a spare D16A8 flywheel from an 88 CRX. 190mm, 21 spline plate, on that model, but I'd have to check the OD's of the flywheel/ring gear to see if it'll match the D13c's. The 89's used a 200mm, 20 spline plate and the 90-91's a 212mm, also 20 spline.

Dooonster
30-06-2013, 05:03 PM
ill have to make measurements of it all first before i make a decision on what ill do

hondapop
30-06-2013, 08:09 PM
I'll try and dig it out tomorrow (gotta remember where it is) and give you some measurements to compare. Won't be to the last nth, but should tell if feasible.

hondapop
01-07-2013, 03:49 PM
OK, These as best I can measurements are taken off the flywheel and 200mm clutch assembly still attached to my spare ZC (JDM D16A) and have been done only using a tape and eye. Should be accurate enough to get an idea.

Flywheel; O/all diam incl ring gear = 283mm. Thickness from back face to pressure plate cover bolton face = 26mm. Crankshaft bolts (6) PCD = 62-63mm. Bolt head size = 17mm 12 point socket.

Pressure plate cover, (bolt on face); O/all diam = 242mm. Thickness (Face to back of cover) = 37mm. OD of actual cover = 210mm.

Input shaft spline; OD =22mm. Spigot shaft OD = 14-15mm

Distance flywheel extends out past bellhousing joint face on block to pressure plate cover bolt on face = 20mm.

Omg progress what a dirty word that is

Oh hey everyone been a while yes the project is still on I hope no one had panicked that I had given up.......

We'll I've been waiting for "over night parts from japan" that took 3 months...... Lol

Gear box bell housing mods are almost done heads off at the shop getting a port and polish.

Engine bay is empty tho I have yet to strip it right back and re paint it that's Next week.

I drop the dash off on wed for flocking and I might drop a bottle of scotch and the engine looms over to a mate who will need the scotch. Lol nothings labeled I'm such a bad friend ....

Ooooo and the shocks are off getting made into coil overs

Now I just have to pay for it all..... Lol

Pics are up on the blog

Dooonster

Yea they just use the measurements of the old ones and make them into coil overs in a custom job. Should be nice but that will be a while away as most custom jobs are

19-12-2013, 08:49 PM
ok so it turned out that the shockies were going to be ..... alot so back to square one but fear not im on a mission

i believe that accord shocks may fit under it.

I busted out the cheapo canon camera that i bought for the garage for photos and took measurement photos of strut and hub.

now i tried to fit the vti hubs and shocks to my car when i wrecked it and the hubs were well off. the bottom ball joint bolt was much smaller on my car.

so i bought some ef shockies and again the ef shockie is too small to fit in the hub......

here is the mesurements if somone could mesure some shockies from a 90 model accord would be great! or know of any shockies that are a bit thicker?

The problem you have there is that the City's setup is a true MacPherson, and the shock shaft is also part of the steering assembly and is normally a bigger diameter shaft to withstand cornering loads. The later civic, accord etc shocks don't have that stress put on them as they connect via the yoke around the CV shafts to the LCA. What you will need to look at for alternatives is the ones from the pre 87 civics/crx's or accords as they are the same type of setup. The Gen 1 Integras could be a better bet.

26-12-2013, 08:58 AM
I have to apologise, I gave you a bit of bum info there. The only one of those earlier models that used coils similar to the GA2 is the pre 85 Accords (and possibly the Preludes which generally were Accord based), all the others used torsion bars connected to the LCA and therefore used a shock without a spring seat but still did have the thicker shaft. Could be worth looking into because it may be possible to make up a sleeve type lower seat that would fit over the shock and bear against the outer edge of the knuckle (your last pic). A custom top seat may need to be also made for the coilover spring. As it's a tracker you wouldn't need to be too worried about a rubber insert.

I wouldn't be surprised that the knuckle in the GA2 is the same as one of those earlier models.

hondapop
26-12-2013, 09:21 AM
Someone that might be able to help with ideas is Ian (forum name anjin) over in Perth, he races a Gen1 CRX. May be able to suggest something or someone.

The GA2's top seat could probably be modified (insert) to take a smaller diameter coil.

Wow i need to subscribe to my own topic so that i get updates......

had a massive look around about it bought shocks from every model accord none fit :( so its either coil overs custom made or springs and a rebuild.

on another note

this are slowly taking shape. (i through it all back together really quickly i might add nothings set in properly and its just sat in there to get a photo for all to drool over.....)

Have a look at this site http://www.sol.dti.ne.jp/~design-m/maxicity.html and go to the Footwork tab where he discusses suspension. With the help of Bing translator, it appears he used 2 brands of coilovers. Firstly by the sound of it a Japanese one Ennepetal in Nagoya. Then further down the page he changed to G-Force which seemed to suit him better. This is what came up in a google search http://www.gforcesuspensionservices.co.uk/ Seems they do 2 wheel and 4 wheel. If they did the shocks etc they may have records, would be pricey no doubt.

hondapop
26-01-2014, 08:24 PM
This seems to explain the Ennepetal connection http://www.bilstein.de/en-uk/news-events/news-detail/archive/2013/october/returnpage/44/article/140-jahre-innovationen-made-in-ennepetal-1/

Yea its been around for a while hard to find people who still do it tho.

things left to do so i can roll the shell out and do a few more bits in the shed.

Mount buckets on the rails.
send door cards and A pillars off to flocking
make mesurements for roll cage.

strip the rest of the car for paint.
finish engine bay so it can be painted
pull all the bits off and paint them
do somthing with the brakes.....

hondapop

Rear brakes (had a look back through to see if I'd mentioned it). My first encounter with one of these little beasties was at our local wreckers many moons ago. They had a black SIR Turbo model (turbo was gone, the only reason they'd bought it). I'm sure it had rear discs and I noticed a different rear axle, + shaped instead of the inverted U like on yours. Car's long gone unfortunately.

from what ive seen a gd2 or gd3 jazz should be a direct swap but ill have to keep looking as i dont think we get those models here in auz.

but i found on carsensor a project race one that had the brakes swapped and it was a gd somthing jazz or city ill look it up again soon i bookmarked the page so i could reference later.

but lets just see how the std brakes go for now and if i need them ill do something later
