hey guys !

so, i FINALLY bought a dc5r two days ago but unfortunately only got to drive it home and now have to leave it in the garage till i do a few things to it.

clutch is riding badly so i plan to change it with a sports organic clutch as told by my mechanics, what is your opinion on this ?

i got quoted about 550 for the labour for it do you guys think this overpriced ?

the oils are low also, so ill need power steering and break oil and maybe gearbox oil (mechanic said they might add it when they do the clutch) and engine oil.

i plan to buy the break and power steering oil and fuel filter from honda, any idea how much i need and how much it should cost ?

for the engine, should i use full synthetic oil or what ? also what grade oil ?
and the oil filter, should i get it from honda or do you think the one from burson or autobarn or something like that will suffice ?

sorry for the noob questions, but its the first time ive owned a type r and not sure what direction to go with these service items. ive only ever serviced engine oil and oil filter on my other cars, i dont know how to service anything else, so ill get my mechanics to do it and ill try learn a thing or to, not sure how much it should cost though roughly ?

i also have to buy tail light gaskets from honda and try change them using a DIY thread i saw on the net, since a LITTLE bit of water was in the boot and a small rust spot. got to change it before it gets worse.

so upset how i cant drive till all this is done, currently saving up all the funds hopefully in a week or two it is up and running.

thanks guys

oem honda filter/mtf/brake/coolant
Oem filter
10w30 nulon oil,
If high kms I'd go 10w40.
Pretty much all oem parts !
If you're in syd south west Mekong spares at canley heights !!

I recommend fully synthetic oils, 5-7k a change, I'm using elf atm, was using royal purple, didn't see much difference.
Mtf06 for gearbox oil. 2L should be enough, organic clutch is good also ! I wanna get organic next !

sorry what is "mtf"
isnt nulon just the brand ? does it matter what i brand i really use ? my main question in this case is whether it should full synthetic or not.
it has 145k kms so im not sure if thats classified high in this case lol.

im from capbelltown/ liverpool area.

what are you saying i should use meekong spares to source out ?

thanx for that

u mad?

$550 sounds about right, might as well do final drive and light weight flywheel while you're at it

eh depends on so many things IE what you want outa your car , your budget ect

ok thanx mate,

i will get synthetic engine oil just not sure to go with 10w30 or 10w40 with it having 145k kms?
how many litres of engine oil does it take ? a 5L gallon should be enough right ?

an even more of a noob question, does the lsd have or require oil, or is that accounted for with the mtf oil ?

Mekong spares have all ur honda needs at a good price,
Oils, filters etc, general stuff
-Honda Mtf06 is the gearbox oil sorry at work LOL
-fully synthetic is generally a better oil,
Yes brands are brands

I'm using 10w50 atm LAWL. Lesson learnt, don't listen to a Evo driver when buying oils !

i read around on the internet some ppl saying they use mtf3 oil. do you know what the difference or if there is any benefit of one over the other etc ?

also im going to hopefully buy all this stuff in one hit on monday. do you think meekong spares will have it cheaper than honda by much orr ?

Jongnie

mtf06 is the new formula m8, all Hondas use it mtf3 old one, don't think you can get it I'm using mtf6 and loving it !

fresh like virgin brah

rough prices cos you're a lazy fuk and can't even call them up yourself

honda oil filter $15
honda coolant 5L $46
honda PS fluid 1L $14
honda brake/clutch fluid 500ml $9
honda mtf $15 (you'll need 2)
honda fuel filter $60
engine oil full syn $50-80
spark plugs $60 for a set of iridiums
do air filter and cabin filter(?)

go with 5w30 or 10w30. keep an eye on it and change viscosity as required
clutch issue, would recommend exedy sports organic with lightened flywheel. $550 bit exxy for labour aye. mechanic supplying the clutch kit too? gonna profit that on top lmao

Why would you listen to a LanEvo driver when buying engine oil? A 4G63 requires a 10W50 especially when running heavy mods.... Turbocharged engine uses completely different oil viscosity to a high revving NA engine.

OEM generally quite cheap and quality stuff regarding oil filter and coolant. You won't go wrong with it ;)

Also if you don't want to use full syn oil for your DC5R, I think you got the wrong car lol =P

A good service for the car you bought is good, you never know what the previous owner put in it...

You willing to bet your purchase price on the words of the previous owner?

just do air filter if it looks dirty
cabin filter i think like $20-30 on ebay, not sure if dc5r even has one
coolant i'd go oem, oil filter can go something else but it's not a big price difference between OEM and aftermarket anyway

when buyin used car, gotta set aside a good 400 or so for fresh fluids and filters. look after the car and it'll look after you

must have bargained off the price hard considering the clutch was fukd

spewing aye lol had to baby it on the way home havnt even got to drive it or take it out for a nice long cruisee. just sitting there looking at it in the garage lol.

yeah man your right seems like itll cost a bit, going to get the mechanics to do the servicing this time and hopefully ill learn a thing or two, do you know how much itll be roughly to carry out a service like this the labouring ?

yeah clutch was gona big time, and has hail damage , its not big dents but small little ones got quoted 1000 for it and pikd up the car for 8250, couldnt of gone wrong lol.

depends on mechanic. get it comp tested while you're at it (if u didn't already do it when u inspected)

doesn't hurt to check condition of the valves, rings, cylinders, headgasket etc. doesn't take long and mechanic prob just do it for free if you asked him along with the service. feel warm n fuzzy inside knowing your engine in good nick

Because you don't know the service history of your car (i'm assuming)
I'd really wouldn't recommend going full synthetic
As the car may have been running on mineral for most of its life... And when you suddenly change to synthetic - all that gunk and crap thats holding together your seals/gaskets
May become dislodged due to the awesome cleaning power of synthetic causing oil to leak through the seals and what not.
Good luck

hmmm good point.
never the less my mechanics still told me use full syntheticm it has log books
which i havnt looked at yet. what grade oil should i use anyway 5w30 or 10w30 full synthetic? or should i just use oem oil

It is very hard for us to recommend without knowing the health of your engine.

Start with the thinner oil and keep consistently checking your engine's oil consumption overtime. If its excessively burning, then go thicker.

I think he's trying to say, why on earth are you using such thick oil?

I would start with 5W30 if drinks then 5W40...

Remember the "5W" indicates viscosity at cold so it will flow quicker hence can start protecting the engine faster. 10W I feel too thick for K20A. Number after it is viscosity at temperature so to speak. 30 is good to start off with since we don't know the health. Monitor it over the 5000kms. If you note you're burning a percentage after say 1000kms, then you know at next service try 5W40 =)
