currently we have 3 on the market here.

a Blue one driven by a 60yr old woman, in good condition.
130k kms
Hardtop included
2000 model
asking 25k

another silver one damage soft top due to attempted robbery
120k kms
Hardtop included
2000 or 99 model (forgot)
Unrego (not hard to rego in perth but i dont know if things commonly wear out on them like bushings etc)
asking 17k

GP white model
30k kms
softop only
great condition
asking 28k

what you guys thinhk?

Simple mate, buy the nicest lowest km you can afford. you'll be glad you did for years to come.

Baby Face

alright the white one is actually being scouted by a guy from sydney if its not taken ill look into acquiring it.

the 18.9k one got sold renzo

I'd buy the GP white man.

Baby Face
29-07-2013, 10:25 PM
what do you guys reckon of the prices?

ill try to get that white one but I bet it will be taken the end of the week.

so the next probably one is the blue one, but for 25k i have heard its a bit much.
130k kms etc.

charlie15
29-07-2013, 10:32 PM
I'd go the gpw one too. The blue one has a few kms for the asking price, but in saying that a hard top is worth around 3-4k so you're really paying around 21 for the car. You can look at it that way.

Good luck

Baby Face
29-07-2013, 10:41 PM
thats what i thought, i was thinking with those mileage i should be looking to a price closer to that of 19k +4k for hardtop might make it worth 23 at most.

go the silver one. offer em. 15k. just make sure it can be regod i.e not written off/stolen.. make sure you get it mechanically checked if you're not mechanically minded. check all main structural components to know the car is straight.

not worth spending 28k on an old car, that'll have old rotten parts on it, regardless of kms. it's old, it'll need shit fixed, it'll have shit stuff up on ya.. the silver at 120xxxkms is very decent. if you get it at around that price including a hardtop!! silly not to go for it.

like i said just make sure it's all clear mechincal/structural/write off/stolen wise first!

Baby Face
30-07-2013, 04:25 PM
alright, well

his ask price was 19k, and said he would do 17k. ill drive out there to check it out.

its not far from my work, the xenon bulb on one side is apparantly broken, how can i make sure that its not the ballast and how much does the bulb/ballast cost to replace?

not really. you have to know how it failed.

only way is to swap the bulbs and see what happens

Baby Face
30-07-2013, 04:53 PM
fuaark, dont wanna swap the bulbs.

might organise with him to ask if i can get a movement permit to take the car for a drive and to take it to a mechanic. to look it over. and if all things look good buy it and take it to my inspector.

charlie15
30-07-2013, 04:55 PM
To only pay 15k for the silver I doubt that highly. In regards to paying high 20's for a clean 31,000km one, I don't see what is wrong with that. People have paid 23-24 for crap ones - pay a bit more for something that's in great condition and you won't regret it.

Mines been a1 since I've bought it (touch wood it stays that way). I opted to spend a few thousand more and have never regretted it. These cars are getting rare in good condition. In future you shouldn't lose much if you have a clean one.

well, im checking it out this thursday, buying a moving permit and going to drive the car to a Ultra tune so a mech i know (his dad has an S) can look over it for me.
will also do a PPRSC(or w.e the new REVS is) check on it.

if its all good ill buy it and take it to the inspector next day.
the seller has agreed to the terms, he says he is mechanic too but has no time since he works as mech and on construction.

he will accompany me too the other mechs work shop.

we should be paying mid - high 20s for a late ap1v2 with low kms or ap2s within the first couple years. the later ap2s should fetch low to mid 30s.. trying to insure it for what you paid, should prove my point to you. those 30xxxkms couldve been the most abusive 30xxxkms that an S has ever seen.

think of it this way. car can have low kms, doesnt mean im going to spend an extra thousand dollars for every 10xxx kms less the car has.. 18k for an S with 130xxxkms or 28k for an S with 30xxxkms. the S you buy for 28k is the exact same age, regardless of how much it has been driven.

Silver one was bought for 11k at Merc/Lexus osb park as a trade in - had farked roof and body was scruffy down one side (sprayed now). Roof mech didn't work at time - prev owner fixed it. Was traded in on an SLK iirc. Other than that, seems decent.

Just checked my phone, number matches haha. Same owner that I met. Nice guy, mechanic at said dealer of Merc/Lexus place. I sold him some BBS LM wheels - didn't pay much attention to his car admittedly. Pretty sure he got yellow'd? By farked roof I mean tear but wasn't working at the time. Re-iterate - not damaged down one side, just scruffy.

That's about all I know. Call him - he's a decent guy from memory.

The car is encumbered (has finance on it), make sure he pays it off before you purchase

It says it's financed through Mercedes Benz which would make sense if he purchased it from there

Request the balance for the car from the seller; obtain two checks, one to clear what the finance institution is owed and one for the remaining money the seller is owed.

Might not be the exact method to do it, but I could imagine the process would be close to what you'd have to do.

Maybe take a maori friend with you, just as a witness.

I told the seller that it has to be cleared first, before it can change hands.

Yeah, thats all covered under the privacy act.

Tell the seller you have performed a REVs check on the vehicle, it has come up that the car is encumbered, could he obtain paperwork on how much is owed as that needs to be confirmed before you can proceed with the sale.

they wanted 24k in the end, which was ok. but im not really too fussed for Hardtop.
someone is apparantly looking to take the blue one already acording to the seller who called me and said that someone else is asking offers. could be a ploy to make me jump on it.

silver car guy reckons he paid cash, when he bought it from his dealership.

theres no real rush, just that the thursday was only day he would be off work earlier enough for me to be able to take it to a mechanic to look at.

with the encumbered one, i can't remember the method of buying it but i heard that if he gets an *exact* figure as to how much is owed, you are allowed to ask them if that figure is the amount owed and they are obliged to say yes if you are right...lol i know it sounds stupid but i heard something like that.

Get the guy to contact the finance company and get him to ask for a pay out figure, im pretty certain the finance company will then post out a letter with the pay out figure. You then get a cheque written up for that amount and give him the rest in cash or another cheque to him direct. Draft a letter up stating the amounts of money you have paid and get the guys drivers license details and take those details and write them into the letter and get him to sign it to make it a contract. Sign rego papers along with the amount you paid. Done deal. Don't stress it's not that big of a deal I purchased my s like this 7 years ago

31-07-2013, 09:38 PM
To be honest, I'd go with the blue one, its going to save you a heck of a lot of time and money by the time you sort of rego and everything, plus if he's mucking you around this much, there really must be something wrong somewhere (if its too good to be true saying).

Baby Face
31-07-2013, 09:47 PM
yeh thanks lolmclol, definately if its too good to be true, then it is.

he says he would drop price down to 17k for me if i do the rego. but also it has a bad bulb/ballast.
if the roof motor wasnt working before then it may be riddled with stuff wrong or damaged by getting to the motor.

Yeah . . . might be worth baiting him for a little while, it will confirm you suspicions if he is dodgey, he'll get desperate if he thinks you've lost interest.

But overall, its recommended not to purchase an encumbered car. If it was me, I'd go to the extent of not signing over until its even received a notice from REVs giving the green light, but to process it I'd be using a lawyer and/or encouraging an agreement with the financial institution its encumbered by.

The issues you're stating above really could just be the icing on the cake (although you'd be able to confirm this by getting it top to toe from a trainer mechanic, such as what you've stated above).

Blue one was taken yesterday.

Silver/owing/unrego one was taken down today guy saying he wants to get it all road registered and sort all the issues out next month since he will be off work then. so my interest has been put down for it, if it is actually "clean".

leaving just the white one which is being taken by a sydney bloke this weekend (most likely).

so the search will have to stop until more come on to the market.

yes it was the low km one that was to be sold to a sydney bloke.

its basically stock, just a few things like JS2k oil tap, different cluster light filter. not much stuff really. but omg so clean

I bought the car last week, the ad listed by gail is a scam. I've owned the car for over a week now.its been reported by me and the previous owner.

Thanks for the welcome but unfortunately I live in NSW. I flew over with my son and inspected the car and made a road trip of the purchase. Gave it a 4000klm test run :) after going right over the car.
It was a pretty tight squeeze with the hard top on and the soft top cover squeezed in with our bags in the boot. I can't believe how comfortable it was on the trip home. We managed to avoid all of the wildlife on the trip but saw a VE V's Wombat (was a draw with both parties needing medical attention and 17 wedge tailed eagles in mainly WA hanging off the side of numerous skippy's. My son offered to share the driving and was a little upset when I declined his offer to take over the wheel of the wifes S2K (hes 12 yrs old).

ahh dam, all our s2k's being sold over east. WA market is quite cheap for s2k's compared to over east on carsales.

the one thing the didnt sell me on the blue S was the hardtop, it rattles on the car. other than that it was in good condition and KM's

but is it easier to see the driver side blind spot with the hard top? i notice soft top up i cant see my blind spot at all.

John42td
11-08-2013, 09:23 PM
yeah, the hardtop rattled a bit needs adjusting a little, love the fact that the visability is better thru the glass than plastic rear window. I adjust the mirrors a little wider to cover my blindspot and glance over left shoulder and rear view mirror. not much space to hide At the moment the roofs always down on the wifes car as she loves the wind in her hair. the hard tops in the garage. I'm really waiting for a nice AP2 with low klms to come up. Kind of figure keeping the AP1 pretty standard instead of spending big bucks changing the front rear suspension etc etc

Baby Face

i like over steer.
yeah, thats true, wider rear tyres are good though.

John42td
11-08-2013, 09:41 PM
I'm picking up some 245 rears tomorrow and some fronts as it came with 225's on it that were nearly as hard as the fronts. spose thats the thing with 60yr old women driving sports cars (the tyres last to long) lmao. I'd like a set of AP2 wheels but ill wait for the AP2 to become available.
