Hey guys

Recently was on the way to a mates place, turned off the highway onto a side street and accelerated, clutch started to slip when changing gears; continued to rev before settling down back to normal. Also, when in 5th and attempting to accelerate as soon as i give more than a little bit of pedal pressure the revs go up by 2k+ and the car barely moves.

I was just wondering if it could be confined to a particular part, I was thinking clutch plate but someone may have other ideas.

Got quoted $1300 for just parts from local Honda (Burswood) for a clutch replacement, which seemed quite steep.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :) Cheers

Yep needs clutch disc and possibly flywheel machined

do not buy clutch through Honda, just get an Exedy off ebay

Definately sounds like the clutch. $1300 is heaps expensive for what it is.

Check out JDMYard for clutches to suit the DC2. You'll be looking at around $400 for parts and get it posted, then whatever on top for someone to fit it.

I'm not sure of other places in WA unfortunately

or you could get it off ebay as well, just make sure you get the right part number so it'll fit.

1300 is excessive for parts alone, but Honda Australia/Dealers are know to gouge massively.

When I had my Exedy fitted (to replace the brutal 6 puck Stage 4) I had to shop around as prices varied from $1600-$1048 for parts and labour. Rear main seal was included (didn't need to be done when checked but was included in the quote as "insurance"). The flywheel should always be machined IMO.

Anyway, this is the best quote I got (Eastern Seaboard - sorry, I know you are in WA).

Exedy HD SO $445
Spigot bearing $10
Flywheel machining $88
Labour $380
OEM Honda rear main seal $50
Motul gearbox oil $75

It actually came in a little cheaper as we didn't need the rear main seal.

Either your engine is massively powerful or clutch on the way out.

Likely clutch on the way out. Should get change from $1000.
