is my car a write off?

Hi All,

i own a 2006 accord euro and sadly i just got home from a "minor accident", i rear ended the car infront of me that has a 'H' shaped bull-bar and it pushed a part of the car's chassis into the radiator. after a few hours of cooling the engine and driving a short distances i managed to get it back home.
the coolant reservoir is not leaking however the radiator has lost power.

do you think it is worth going through insurance as the other car was unscratched and mine looks like a new radiator and a new bumper? (my excess is $2000).

i am just worried about that 'crossbar chassis' looking part infront of the radiator

Need More photos,

I don't think that's a write off, as that bar, in the photo is designed for this purpose. Its made from softer metal so it absorbs most of the energy and not allowing it traveling through into the passenger cabin.

Really need Photos of the engine bay from the top and bottom if you want a better answer from the community.\

For 2k whoa, and the other party is fine with their car. I would not go through insurance.

Shoot me a PM, if you want your car inspected and reported as a write off.

NO ONE HERE CAN POSSIBLY KNOW if your car is a write off.

I would suggest that your cars damage is in excess of your excess - in the interest of getting your car repaired properly I'd just bend over and pay the $2k and get it fixed,

Well if you didn't cause any damage to the other party you should shop around at a few panel beaters first.

You will need to replace radiator, front bumper (paint & fitted), grill?, crush panel and possibly front reo/rad support (unlikely if it's small damage).

All up I would imagine that it's less than $2k (cash job). Even if it's around the same price or slightly more it may still be worthwhile as your premium & rating wont be affected. Only down side to getting it fixed yourself is that you lose the insurers lifetime warranty.

Chauster is here. It's been awhile but I think I've come back from my slumber. From what i can see which is not much it doesn't look like a write off. A write off is when the damages exceeds the value of the vehicle. Usually at about 80% of the value and the insurance company will write it off for you. If you go through insurance if it's just front bar, grille, fog lights, bonnet, rad support, radiator, maybe headlights, assume guards need repair. I'd say you're looking at tops 5-7k. Seeing that an 06 euro go for about 12k + it seems you would be getting it repaired. Don't take my word as you've supplied probably the worst detailed photo imaginable.

Not sure if I should do a virtual Hi-5 or what, but I was in the same situation as you last year... only difference was my radiator *just* missed it by about 10mm.
My brother borrowed my car without asking and went for a joyride... then rear ended another car at the lights... you can imagine how I felt after owning the car brand new for only a few weeks... in fact I was still sleeping and didn't know WTF had happened and thought it was all a dream until it actually hit me. :zip:

Pretty minor to be honest. Still, needed a new beam. :(

However I was VERY surprised what damaged was caused with such a slow hit, around 10KM/H into the back of a Focus because my brother accelerated into the car in front cause the light turned green. All the Focus needed was $260 in touch up paint to the bumper, everything else was okay... then look at my Civic... look at that dent!! *cries*

You just need a front reo bar, temporary fix the bonnet and front for now and save up. Thats what I did when I hit a roo who was trying to kill me at 120kph. Make sure the bonnet will shut properly or when the wind catches it then you will also need new bonnet struts, hinges and windscreen.

i went to get a quote from a few panel beaters and were quoted between $2500 - $3000

things require replacing are:

radiator
radiator support bar
radiator fan
airconditioning unit
ariconditioning re-gas
front beam ( + weld)
repair + respray front bar
replace front grills
+ labor.

i already called Aami and is with their shop now.
